Job Description:

Summary:

The New York Mets are seeking a skilled and dedicated Staff Accountant to join our finance department. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of the vibrant sports industry and contribute to the success of one of the most iconic teams in Major League Baseball.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • BankingTransactions and Reconciliations: Ensure accurate recording of cash transactions by maintainingthe ledger and reconciling bank statements. Monitor and reconcile cash balances across various accounts, investigating and resolving any discrepancies. Prepare bank reconciliations on a regular basis to ensure accurate financial reporting.

  • Expense Report Review: Review and process employee expense reports, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures. Verify accuracy, completeness, and appropriate supporting documentation. Address any discrepancies or policy violations, andprovide guidance to employees as needed.

  • Assist With Accounts Payable and Receivable: Process invoices, payments, and expenses. Monitor and manage accounts receivable, ensuring timely collections. Collaborate with vendors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to resolve any billing issues.

  • General Ledger Management: Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial transactions. Prepare journal entries and perform monthly closing procedures.

  • Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. Analyze financial data, identify trends, and provide meaningful insights to support decision-making.

  • Compliance and Audit Support: Ensure compliance with accounting principles, company policies, and relevant regulations. Assist in the preparation of audit schedules and provide necessary documentation during internal and external audits.

  • Process Improvement: Continuously review and enhance accounting processes and procedures to streamline operations and increase efficiency. Implement best practices and recommend software or system upgrades to support financial activities.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments to provide financial insights, support decision-making, and ensure accurate financial recording.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.

  • 2-3 years of experience in accounting or finance.

  • CPA preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions, formulas, and data analysis.

  • Experience with Workday ERP is a plus.

  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Public Accounting/Private Industry experience is a plus.
