Job Description:

Summary:

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manager of Accounting to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in accounting management and will be responsible for overseeing and managing the overall accounting functions of select entities within our organization. This role requires a high level of analytical skills, attention to detail, and strong leadership abilities. Must be an effective communicator and committed to working in a collaborative environment, with the ability to think critically and strategically while maintaining impeccable ethics.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and/or support the daily operations of the accounting staff dedicated to certain entities, which includes baseball operations, marketing and content creation, and certain G&A functional groups.

  • Manage the month-end close process of various reporting entities and communicate status with relevant team members to ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial results.

  • Assess current practices, policies, and procedures and make recommendations to improve internal controls and processes to ensure the accuracy of accounting data and the timely reporting of financial results.

  • Review journal entries completed by the staff and make recommendations to increase efficiency and streamline support and workflows.

  • Document policies and procedures of the accounting close process and other key accounting business processes.

  • Perform and/or review general accounting operational processing and reconciliation of general ledger accounts, including cash, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, accruals, deferred revenue, etc.

  • Collaborate with team members to foster an understanding of accounting workflows across all functional areas of the Company.

  • Ensure proper internal controls, including compliance with Company policies and procedures and all other statutory requirements.

  • Review invoices, payment requests, travel and entertainment reimbursements and other related costs to ensure compliance with Company policies, proper accounting treatment, and make recommendations to optimize the business process.

  • Support the facilitation of the annual financial audit, tax request items, and other third-party deliverables, as required.

  • Assist in the preparation of the budget and forecast for the accounting department.

  • Assist with special ad-hoc projects as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required, master’s degree in accounting or related field preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role preferred.

  • Certified Public Accounting (CPA) certification is required.

  • 2 years of public accounting experience and/or industry experience in the fields of sports, media, and/or entertainment is preferred.

  • A thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

  • The ability to establish and implement policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and business process efficiency.

  • The ability to exercise independent judgement in assessing and performing intermediate to advanced accounting tasks.

  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present financial information and accounting principles in a clear and concise manner.

  • Excellent management and supervisory skills with the ability to develop staff.

  • Considered to be a critical thinker and problem-solver with strong analytical, organizational and multi-tasking skills with acute attention to detail.

  • Ability to complete projects and assignments within deadlines, with minimal direction.

  • Must be comfortable with handling confidential information with the utmost discretion.

  • Build collaborative working relationships, cross-functionally, to drive and achieve results, working with team members to accomplish goals and objectives.

  • Promote professionalism and a passion for excellence in all business relationships including peers, team members, vendors, service providers, consultants, and other third parties.

  • Proficient with accounting software (Workday preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite, especially strong in Excel.
