Position Summary
This role will report to the Head of League Operations for the BAL and will provide operational, program & administrative support for BAL basketball operations matters (ranging from player transactions to game enforcement). The ideal candidate will bring some experience or exposure to basketball or sports operations, strong communication and project management skills.
Major Responsibilities
- Lead all basketball operations activities related to the BAL’s women program.
- Lead BAL basketball programs such as coaching clinics, referees clinics, pro camps, Africa coaches program, and any other assigned program.
- Manage the department’s scouting activities, inclusive of the development and management of a database system.
- Assist with the administration and execution of BAL basketball and game operations, inclusive of venue, player, team, and referee matters.
- Assist in conducting BAL player and team orientation to BAL league rules and regulations.
- Assist with scheduling of practices and shoot-around times, and overseeing the preparation of the practice floor.
- Through coordination with the BAL teams and internal stakeholders, assist with the development of BAL schedule.
- In partnership with the Hospitality team, assist in the coordination of BAL team travel, including transportation arrangements, lodging, and meals, player, and team visa matters.
- Support the design of leadership workshops to help teams build capacity.
- Interpret player disciplines and rules to ensure team and player compliance with all BAL agreements, rules and contracts.
- Help establish and maintain good working relationship with FIBA and federations.
- Support off-season basketball activities and events, as needed.
- Provide support to all CSR activities, as needed.
Required Skills/Knowledge
- Excellent verbal, written, communication and presentation skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong project-management skills, with a demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects with tight deadlines.
- Strong knowledge of the basketball landscape, preferred.
- Global thinker and operator – appreciative of and well-versed in other cultures and business practices.
- Demonstrated computer proficiency (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to learn quickly.
- Ability to work well within a team environment.
- Fluency in English required, French, Arabic or Portuguese a plus.
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-national matrix organization and manage complex projects.
- Ability to travel extensively across Africa.
Experience Needed
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in or exposure to basketball or sports operations (playing, coaching, talent evaluation, programming etc.)
- High-level (college or professional) basketball playing experience, preferred.
- Experience with running basketball practices, clinics, and camps, a plus.
Educational Background Required
- Bachelor’s degree required
