Summary of Job Description
The Miami Marlins seek a dynamic Bilingual Coaching and Player Education Specialist to
support our mission of becoming a fully bilingual organization. This role will be key in driving
meaningful change and supporting continuous improvement as many of our staff advance
into their second season of Spanish language learning, empowering them to coach, teach,
and mentor our international players more effectively.
Responsibilities
Language Instruction
- Teach Spanish and English classes for coaches to improve verbal proficiency
- Conduct small group or 1-1 sessions to address specific coaching needs
- Develop and adapt language lessons for baseball-specific scenarios
Curriculum Development and Translation
- Contribute to the ongoing development of bilingual resources for coaches
- Translate documents and presentations, ensuring terminology is accurate
In-Session Support and Interpretation
- Facilitate cross-linguistic communication in baseball education sessions and during coaching sessions
- Translate or clarify, as needed, to enhance player engagement and learning
Evaluation and Feedback
- Monitor and assess coaches' language progress throughout the season
- Assist in developing formative assessments to continuously improve curriculum and instruction
Cultural Awareness and Competence
- Educate coaches on cultural differences and nuances in communication
- Assist in cultural competence training and support an inclusive environment
Required Skills and Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish with strong verbal and written skills
- Understanding of cultural diversity within baseball and cross-cultural communication
- Demonstrated pedagogical skills in language instruction
- Strong ability to build rapport and provide and receive constructive feedback
- Adaptability and problem-solving skills within a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Familiarity with baseball and passion for player development in a multicultural setting
- Skilled using digital tools for language instruction and communication
- Bachelor’s degree in education or cross-cultural communication is preferred
- 3+ years of experience in language instruction and within baseball is preferred
