Description
The Minor League Strength and Conditioning Coach is responsible for the physical development and preparation of a Minor League Affiliate Baseball team. This includes the development and coaching of a player health and performance program that is designed to maximize player talent and readiness of the course of the entire baseball season. This position will work in coordination with other performance staff members to develop an industry leading performance and rehab system for the affiliate team.
Responsibilities
- Work in coordination with the Minor League Strength and Conditioning Coordinator to develop a performance training system designed to maximize player talent and readiness over an entire season.
- Development and coaching of individual player programming based on objective assessments and positional requirements.
- Development and coaching of energy system development programs that are position and player specific.
- Programming and coaching of: Movement preparation, Linear and multidirectional movement skill and speed, Plyometrics, Strength and power development, correctives, and recovery and regeneration protocols.
- Collaborate with the Athletic Trainers to create reconditioning protocols for injured players to ensure a return to competition in a high performing state.
- Collaborate with the Minor League Strength and Conditioning Coordinator and Sport Scientist to implement routine subjective and objective player readiness and workload monitoring protocols.
- Collaborate with the Nutrition Department to assist players in meeting their body composition, health and performance goals.
- Collaborate with the Field Staff to develop solutions for on-field performance deficits.
- Educate players on how the performance system supports their on-field expression of skill.
- Provide reports as specified to the Minor League Strength and Conditioning Coordinator.
- Maintain and record subjective and objective information specific to player and team performance.
- Research industry leading practices that may have a positive effect on player performance.
- Communicate with assigned players during the off-season and provide updates on their health and performance status.
- Be a positive, effective, and collaborative staff member.
- Maintain knowledge of latest trends and leading practices in the performance field.
- Maintain all professional credentials and licensure.
Essential Position Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in Exercise Science, Physiology, or related degree.
- NSCA CSCS, RSCC and CPR/First Aid certification.
- 3+ years’ full-time experience in a similar role.
- Experience working with teams/athletes in high-level sport
- Experience developing long-term athlete development programming.
- Competent with programming and coaching linear and multidirectional movement skills.
- Experience with developing aerobic and anaerobic energy system development programs.
- Experience reconditioning athletes to return to competition from injury.
- Experience with periodic player performance assessments.
- Evidence of continued professional development and education (Workshops, accreditations, etc.)
- Excellent communication skills with coaches, athletes, and staff.
- Excellent ability to provide oral and written updates on the readiness of the team/players.
- Up to date knowledge of the latest trends in elite athlete performance development.
- Must be able to travel domestically and internationally.
- Must be able to work unconventional hours.
Desirable Position Requirements
- Postgraduate/Master’s degree in a related discipline.
- Experience working in baseball (Collegiate, MiLB, MLB).
- Familiarity with Athlete monitoring systems, force plate systems, athlete positioning systems, and load cell and strain gauge-based testing devices.
- Innovative and creative approach to work and problem solving.
- Ability to communicate in Spanish.
