The Development Scout Fellow is a remote, entry-level position within the Miami Marlins’ Amateur Scouting department. This role will focus on in-person player evaluation and video scouting, traveling to amateur-related events under the guidance of department leadership. In addition to report writing, this position may support Amateur Scouting with other responsibilities in preparation for the Rule 4 Draft.

Program Duration: The fellowship is a one-year commitment, generally starting in February and concluding at the beginning of the 2025 Winter Meetings.

Eligibility:

  • Strong passion for player evaluation and desire to pursue a career in baseball operations.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Must be a recent graduate from an accredited institution or have equivalent experience.
  • Ability to commit to a full-time schedule for the duration of the fellowship.
  • Must be willing and able to travel by car to carry-out scouting assignments.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Scouting and ranking of amateur players both in-person and on video, maintaining preference lists for the department.
  • Developing a deep understanding of the organization’s scouting philosophy and technologies.
  • Participating in regular meetings with amateur personnel staff, as well as take part in regular scouting education sessions.
  • Staying updated with insights and trends in public and internal research.
  • Receiving feedback from fellow team members, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous learning within the department.
  • Other tasks as assigned.



Compensation and Benefits:
In conjunction with the Marlins’ Baseball Fellowship Program, fellows participating will receive:

  • A payrate of $13.00 per hour or minimum wage in the state where they reside, whichever is higher.
  • Eligibility for enrollment in the MLB Value Plan insurance program.
  • Full-time employment status during the duration of the fellowship.

Selection Process: Applicants will undergo a rigorous selection process, which may include interviews, assessments, and reference checks. The selection committee will assess candidates based on their qualifications, passion for baseball, and potential to contribute to the organization.
