Our Story

Manchester City Women is an English football club initially founded by City in the Community in 1988. Relaunched by a formal partnership with Manchester City FC, MCWFC entered the FA Women’s Super League and professionalised in 2014. Success has followed in not only the FAWSL but also the Women’s FA Cup and Continental Tyres League Cup, while the team has regularly competed in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. ​

The team plays its home fixtures at Joie Stadium, a 7,000 capacity arena. The stadium sits on the wider Etihad Campus, which also encompasses the City Football Academy, a state-of-the-art training and development facility that houses its women’s, men’s and academy teams.

Manchester City Women’s vision is to be regarded as the best women’s sporting organisation on the planet. Key to achieving our ambitions, is the recruitment of our 1st Team Individual Development Coach with the following purpose:

  • To be a pivotal figure in shaping the environment and development of players within our squad, to allow them to play the best football of their lives.
  • To work with the Head Coach and Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) to plan, deliver and review world-class training sessions, that deliver against the Man City playing style and game model, with a concentrated emphasis on Individual Development Plan (IDP) targets.
  • To ensure the game model and IDP targets are implemented in daily training, monitoring, documenting, and reporting on individual player development goals and plans, maintaining open communication with relevant staff members, while exhibiting enthusiasm, organisation, responsibility, and professionalism.
  • Contribute to our talent identification programme, to support the building and maintenance of a winning team, with the world’s best goalkeepers.

Your Impact

Training Session Planning and Delivery:

  • In collaboration with the coaching staff and MDT, develop and document comprehensive and challenging training plans focussed on enhancing technical and tactical IDP targets.
  • Deliver engaging and dynamic training sessions that challenge the team, unit and individual players to develop and master position specific concepts of the game model.
  • Work in collaboration with the wider coaching staff to ensure team training meets IDP themes and individual player goals. Supporting players to maximise their individual potential.

Training and Match Review:

  • In collaboration with the coaching staff and MDT, continuously and comprehensively review training and matches against set plans/objectives, with a specific focus on IDPs to drive the team and individuals towards maximising on pitch performance.
  • Work closely with the performance analysts, within the What it Takes To Win (WITTW) model framework, to drive team and individual performance, in the pursuit of major titles.

Learning and Development:

  • Work with the Director of Football, Head Coach and other peers, to contribute to an outstanding learning environment for both players and coaches, Bringing innovative ideas and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge to the programme.
  • To continually strive to grow and develop your own coaching processes and methods.

Communication, Building Relationships and Leading:

  • Build and maintain excellent working relationships with players and staff, flexing and adapting communication styles to inspire, motivate, and help individuals maximise their potential.
  • Be a leading figure in driving standards of world-class professional behaviours amongst players and staff, to contribute to a team environment of excellence, achievement and mutual respect for others, where all players can thrive in a safe and supportive space.
  • Actively engage in all relevant meetings, openly, honestly and professionally to contribute to the creation and maintenance of a truly multi-disciplinary high-performance environment.

Talent Identification and Development:

  • Assist in talent identification initiatives by observing players during training sessions, matches, and competitive events.
  • Collaborate with academy staff to identify and nurture high potential talented players, providing opportunities for advancement and progression from within the academy pathway, into Man City Women’s 1st Team.
  • Overseeing the technical and tactical development/progress of any delegated/assigned players on loan.

What we are looking for

  • UEFA A Licence Coaching Award
  • Experience of working as an elite level goalkeeping coach within professional football.
  • Sound understanding of the Man City playing style and game model.
  • Proven experience planning, delivering and reviewing comprehensive and challenging training programmes in an elite football environment.
  • Proven experience, inspiring and motivating athletes to do their best work.
  • Able to work quickly and calmly under pressure, adapting to rapidly changing demands and environments.
  • Ability to build and maintain excellent relationships with players, staff, agents, and other key stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex strategies with clarity and simplicity.
  • Demonstrable experience of working within sophisticated football technical programmes.
  • Possesses the drive to be the best in their field.
  • Open and honest, with the ability to give and receive feedback in an appropriate manner to all stakeholders.

Desirable

  • Previous experience within the women’s professional game.
