The First Team Rehabilitation Physiotherapist will design and deliver bespoke rehabilitation strategies to ensure an optimal return to full training [RTFT] in terms of physical performance and according to current industry guided timelines, with a research enhanced approach.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties predominantly involve, but are not exclusive to the first team squad and have a focus towards rehabilitation of long term injured players;
- Diagnosis of player injury as soon as possible after onset
- Early management of injured players
- Primary responsibility for rehabilitation sessions of injured first team players in pool, gymnasium, and field settings, conducted in a suitable and timely manner
- Co-ordinate weekly rehab meetings with appropriate Medical and Performance staff
- Ensure injured players meet suitable objective markers, agreed early in the rehabilitation process with the wider medical and performance team, before return to full training
- Ensure all injured players have up to date rehabilitation plans
- Take group rehabilitation sessions for injured players as required
- Liaison with Head of Medical Services, Head of Physiotherapy and Head of Sports Science relating to optimal hand over of players for late stage conditioning
OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Physiotherapy assessment and treatment provision to professional players including but limited to manual, electro and exercise therapies
- Work closely with the Head Physiotherapist, and Head of Medical Services to coordinate care and ensure a multidisciplinary approach to player health
- Ensure all elements of a player’s treatment under your care are effectively communicated with your line manager and/or the Head of Medical Services
- Maintain detailed and up-to-date medical records for players in your care
- Conduct regular musculoskeletal screenings and assessments to identify potential injury risk factors
- Provide players with manual treatment and exercise sessions relating to either injury prevention or rehabilitation
- Monitor and adjust rehabilitation programs of players in your care based on progress and clinical findings, communicating with the wider team
- Collaboration with soft tissue therapists into provide optimal treatment for players
- Stay current with the latest research and advancements in sports physiotherapy and rehabilitation
- Participate in continuing education and professional development opportunities
- Contribute to research projects and initiatives aimed at improving player care and performance
- Joint responsibility to maintain an elite environment at all times
- Joint responsibility to ensure clean and tidy work spaces and medical room
- Attend matches and act as a match day physiotherapist both home and away when required
- Duties for match day to include but not limited to, player preparation strategies, injury assessment & acute management, transportation of equipment and ensuring a clean, tidy and elite environment
- Abide by all rules and requirements as set out and communicated by the club, this includes following the rules of the “Club Handbook”.
- Follow any reasonable requests by your line manager or Head of Medical Services to support the wider team.

- Excellent clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.

- Proficiency in a variety of physiotherapy and rehabilitation techniques.

- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel with the team as required.

Education/Qualifications/Training:
Essential
- Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy.
- CSP Member
- HCPC Registered
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in sports physiotherapy with experience in football.
- Experience of rehabilitation of professional footballers
- Strong knowledge of musculoskeletal injuries, rehabilitation techniques, and injury prevention strategies.
- Desirable
- Master’s degree in Physiotherapy or a related field.
- Certification in advanced sports physiotherapy techniques.
- CSCS or UKSA accreditation
- FA Advanced Trauma and medical Management in Football (ATMMiF)
