Job Title: Front Desk Attendant- UYA

Job Summary:

The Kansas City MLB Urban Youth Academy is a nonprofit organization with the mission to empower Kansas’s City’s youth through baseball, softball, academic and social opportunities to be the leaders of tomorrow.

The normal working schedule for this position is from 10:00am to 5:00pm on weekdays, this opening would be for 2 – 3 days a week. The Front Desk Attendant’s main task is to welcome visitors to the UYA during operating hours – clearly communicating to guests the schedule of activities and answering questions about where different activities are being held. There can be multiple activities happening during the course of the day at the UYA, so it is critical that the incumbent be a skilled and effective communicator to minimize confusion and effectively direct guests to where they need to be. This position also works closely with the Facility & Operations Manager who will at times give extra assignments to be completed.



Position Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

  • Greet guests as they come in and give them directions to their field
  • Answer the phone and take messages then distribute to the proper employee.
  • Watch security cameras and maintain awareness of who is entering or in the immediate vicinity of the Academy
  • Receive packages and mail that are delivered to the Academy and distribute to correct individuals as items come in.
  • Use the lobby TV at the front desk as reference for the day’s events, as well as us TripleSeat schedule software.
  • Ensure the correct team/party is on the field they have been assigned
  • Knowledgeable about UYA Programming to adequately answer parents’ questions (i.e. which sports are offered, which age groups are eligible, when sessions begin/end etc.)
  • Ensure all guests whether they be open gym participants, contractors or programming parents correctly log in via the iPad at the front desk or by the QR code posted throughout the Academy. View who is signed it and confirm its accuracy via the monitor at the front desk.
  • Help resolve any conflicts that may arise or refer to a full-time employee on site or the Facility Lead (part time employee)
  • Represent the Royals Organization in a professional manner
  • Monitor and perform laundry daily or as necessary to ensure the Athletic Training and Concessions teams have clean towels
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the front desk, lobby area and concessions stand.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift items weighing as much as 75 pounds
  • Must be able to work in a seated position for majority of workday
  • Must be able to be productive utilizing a computer keyboard and telephone
  • Must be able to be productive in a work environment where the noise level can be high at times
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision and ability to adjust focus
  • Must be comfortable walking to navigate the facility to access the office, concourse, etc.
  • Must be able to work extended hours and/or weekends as required by deadlines and event scheduling

This role is a Part-Time, Non-Exempt opportunity that is not eligible for Company Benefits, 401K, and PTO. The schedule for this position is dependent on our team schedule and is subject to change.
