JOB SUMMARY

The Maintenance Engineer is part of the Central Plant Engineering team, and their primary role is to maintain and repair the various systems at Pacers Sports & Entertainment (PS&E) campus, which includes Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Ascension St. Vincent Center, and Bicentennial Unity Plaza. This position will maintain HVAC systems, coordinate and direct the preventative maintenance of critical campus equipment, repair and maintain restaurant / concession equipment, assist with door and hardware maintenance and provide carpentry assistance as needed. The Maintenance Engineer will also assist the other members of the Central Plant Engineering team with the maintenance of all electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems or equipment on the PS&E Campus during normal business hours and events, which includes nights and weekends.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform / assist with preventative maintenance on all HVAC systems including boilers, high pressure steam station, ice rink chiller, kitchen exhaust fans, and other HVAC related systems.
  • Direct and coordinate the preventative maintenance of forklifts, tenants, bobcats, Zamboni and other related equipment.
  • Assist with door and hardware maintenance, including cores and keys, for all campus buildings.
  • Manage maintenance contractors for higher level repairs and installations.
  • Change filters, grease motors, and replace belts on HVAC equipment.
  • Review blueprints and design specifications to better understand building systems for in-house projects and make recommendations for best practice and meet project deadlines.
  • Assist with a variety of carpentry duties needed throughout the campus.
  • Provide preventative maintenance and repairs on restaurant / concession equipment.
  • Ability to learn and operate the building management system and the Lutron lighting system.
  • Monitor and circulate around Gainbridge Fieldhouse and Central Plant during events to ensure the building is operating as anticipated. This could include setting or making temperature changes due to size and type of event crowds; turning on/off elevators and escalators, ensuring all lights are on, making necessary repairs and adjustments to equipment, arena seats, doors, restrooms, concession stands and other apparatus during events.
  • Assist with central plant operations as assigned. This could include making necessary adjustments to start up and operate central plant, monitoring various gauges and meters to ensure safe and efficient operation of central plant equipment, logging readings as required, start/stop chillers and pumps to maintain proper water temperature to air handling units.
  • Repair plumbing fixtures and drains as needed.
  • Change lights and ballast.
  • Repair and replace seats as needed.
  • Circulate through Gainbridge Fieldhouse and Ascension St Vincent Center to monitor conditions and resolve any problems of restrooms, plumbing, escalators, elevators, and lights.
  • Remove snow / ice throughout the campus.
  • Assist in preventive maintenance of equipment throughout the campus buildings and Bicentennial Unity Plaza.
  • Assist in performing any and all miscellaneous maintenance related tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 5 years maintenance experience with any combination of HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, restaurant/concession equipment, and building systems required.
  • Strong desire to learn and grow in the maintenance field required.


COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Basic to intermediate computer skills required.
  • Microsoft Office Suite experience required, specifically in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Building Management System experience required.


REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret directions. Basic math skills are required, including the ability to use and read rulers and other measuring devices, interpret technical diagrams and reports and read architectural and engineering plans.

PROBLEM SOLVING REQUIREMENTS:

Employee must exercise independent judgement in determining when to start air conditioning, evaluating Gainbridge Fieldhouse comfort level and adjusting control temperature, maintaining proper ice temperature for ice events, and deciding how to resolve various plumbing, electrical and mechanical problems that arise during events. If working during events, the employee normally is not directly supervised, but will coordinate with the other engineer(s) on duty and report major issues/incidents to the engineering supervisor and / or event supervisor.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, move heavy objects, use a computer, use a 10-key calculator, use a telephone, speak, hear, and write. In addition, this role will be exposed to extreme heat and cold and toxic or caustic chemicals while on the job in which PPO training and equipment will be provided.

While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the office work environment is usually moderate and the noise level in Gainbridge Fieldhouse / game environment is usually loud. The stress level may become high during certain times of the year.
