Indiana Fever Athletic Trainer & Physical Therapist

The Indiana Fever Athletic Trainer & Physical Therapist is a member of the Sports Medicine team and is responsible for providing professional physical therapy and athletic training care for the injuries and illnesses of the Indiana Fever players. The primary responsibilities include prevention, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and monitoring of all illnesses and injuries.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under the direction of the Director of Medical Services and Head Athletic Trainer for the Indiana Fever, provide clinical care, based on the clinical evidence paradigm, to all players including but not limited to initial examination, diagnosis, evaluation, treatment, monitoring, and prevention of injuries.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of pre-season, in-season and off-season screening, testing, and examination.
  • Provide care to the Fever Coaching and support staff.
  • Under the direction of the Director of Medical Services and Head Athletic Trainer, assist in identifying individual clinical treatment and rehabilitation strategies, goals, prognosis, and timelines based on the best clinical evidence.
  • Serve as the bridge between the athletic training, strength and conditioning staff, and other members of the sports medicine staff to allow for greater continuity of care including fostering communication with other components of the sports medicine service and the coaching staff.
  • Coordinate scheduling of sports medicine and basketball-related activities and physicals during the season.
  • Order, stock, and pack medical supplies
  • Maintain cleanliness of training area, prep room, and basketball courts.
  • Assist in the facilitation of the day-to-day operations of the Sports Medicine department.
  • Maintain state licensure and certification as a physical therapist and athletic trainer.
  • Adhere to all team and WNBA League standards for clinical documentation.
  • Maintain WNBA League HIPAA standards for confidentiality regarding all matters pertaining to the players and the organization.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule that could include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Assist in any other areas as assigned.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree and Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree required.
  • At least three years of relevant experience is required.
  • Must be qualified to obtain both an athletic trainer and physical therapist license in the state of Indiana.
  • Must be a NATA certified athletic trainer.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must maintain annual or biannual CPR/AED training as required by the state of Indiana, WNBA, and NATA.


COMPUTER SKILLS:

Knowledge of Excel, Microsoft Word, and general data entry. Ability to learn new systems and adapt to new technology.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret instructions and reports. This position should be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from players, coaches, front office, company executives, player agents and family members.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Knowledge to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as analyzing costs, figuring statistics, and making area and liquid measurements.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret directions and technical diagrams. Ability to interpret directions.

PROBLEM SOLVING REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to make independent decisions by exercising discretion and independent judgment.
