Job Summary:
Responsible for assisting the Director of Event Security with managing all aspects of security operations at LCA, Fox Theatre, City Theatre, DTE, Meadow Brook, Freedom Hill and all other District Detroit venues. Ensure the security staff delivers quality service with internal and external guests through excellence in standards, presentation and professionalism. Plan, coordinate and direct activities such as patrol of physical property; monitoring system response, and personnel. Disseminate information to staff in regard to post orders, revisions and daily event and non-event needs.
Maintains compliance for Venue Security policies and procedures through regular on-site evaluations. Responds to incidents of crime, which occur in the area and participates with local law enforcement agencies in the investigation of such incidents. Provides security and safety services to LCA and all District Detroit entities. This position is responsible for event-based Crowd Manager performance and coaching.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspections / Investigations:
- Conducts inspections of concessions/merchandise points of sale at the venues (OEI, ODM and DTI) and documents the results in order to monitor compliance of the cash handling, safety and security policies and procedures. Reviews results with Vice President of Corporate Security and/or Designee/Director of Venue Security.
- Responds to incidents of crime reported/possible internal issues, coordinates investigations and provides support for colleagues and customers.
- Investigates incidents in a timely manner. Prepares the critical incident report and investigation summary and provides same to the Vice President of Corporate Security and/or Designee/Director of Venue Security. Ensures all reports and updates are submitted to Business Unit Executives.
- Follows up on incidents by providing assistance to colleagues in the criminal justice process and maintains contact with colleagues and agencies as necessary to complete investigation.
- Maintains accurate documents on all investigations until file is completed and incident is closed.
- Investigates foreign object reports and documents findings and communicates with Risk Management.
Safety Management:
- Management of Venue Security Supervisor on operational shift staff (24/7) including concerts and events.
- Direct and manage Venue Security Staff (24/7) daily operations including reviewing Venue Security Supervisor reports and approving same, responding to critical incidents, notifying appropriate District Detroit Executives, developing and implementing post orders for Venue Security Supervisors and approving daily timekeeping functions for staff.
- Monitor classified and unclassified intelligence systems provided by DHS, Tripwire, TSA, MIOC and DSEMIIC supporting all IHI Business Units. Appropriately distribute critical intelligence documents in a timely manner to ensure safety and security of IHI Business Units, facilities and colleagues.
- Monitor and respond to venue alarm/intrusion systems in District Detroit, including notification to appropriate public safety-first responders.
- Manage companywide Incident Reporting Software and Database, analyze data and generate reports.
- Installs, maintains and monitors covert camera equipment used for internal and external investigations.
- Conducts executive services details as directed by the Director of Venue Security and/or the Vice-President of IHI Corporate Security.
- Manage the 24/7 Command Center Staff responsible for proprietary intrusion alarms, life-safety alarms and video equipment at LCA and District Detroit venues.
- Recovers restitution’s voluntarily or through court order.
- Attends staff meetings and coordinates classroom instruction sessions including First Aid/AED/CPR, fire-life safety, new colleague orientation and emergency management programs. Coordinates and oversees Site Emergency Action Plans (SEAP), Business Continuity Incident Response Plans (BCIRP), fire-life safety Systems and supporting programs including tabletop exercises (TTX), fire drills and fire captain training for LCA and District Detroit.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Conducts screening interviews / hiring for open department positions.
- Trains and develops security colleagues.
- Manages Venue Security Supervisor payroll, hours, submission and process.
- Manages Venue Security Supervisor performance, coaches colleagues and creates development plan.
- Identifies LCA and District Detroit venue areas with a need for special security equipment. Ensures the maintenance of such equipment, i.e. CCTV, alarms, etc.
- Establishes and maintains professional relationships with law enforcement agencies and affiliates oneself with professionals in area crime prevention groups.
- Develops and maintains a preventative maintenance plan for Life Safety equipment for facilities/venues.
- Periodically attends Security oriented conferences, seminars and workshops to keep abreast of innovations technology.
- Communicates with other departments and outside contacts as needed.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in area of study, preferably security management or criminal justice, experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- Ten (10) - Sixteen (16) years of experience in security and safety, experience with major law enforcement, public or private sector security and event management.
- Strong working knowledge of criminal and civil codes dealing with private sector security policies and procedures.
- The ability to travel.
- Strong management and training ability.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience and/or training in the field of interview and interrogation.
- Proof of and maintain a valid operator’s license, automobile insurance as a primary driver, valid passport, as well as, a reliable means of transportation to carry out essential job functions, in accordance with company policy and procedures.
- Must pass a criminal background check in accordance with company policy and periodically checked thereafter.
- Must be willing and able to work evening and weekends.
- Must possess a valid credit card in own name.
- Must be available/on call 24 hours.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Master’s degree in Security Management or Criminal Justice
- Professional training certifications in Security Management or Criminal Justice.
Working Conditions:
- General office environment with little discomfort from noise, temperature and weather exposure.
- Exterior walking conditions expose to all weather elements, noise to include concerts, airport noise.
- Can be exposed to potentially hostile environments, confrontations and or dangerous situations.
- Must be available to travel as needed and on short notice.
