Job Overview:

Chicago Fire Football Club is seeking a dedicated Assistant Groundskeeper to join our team! This individual will be committed to maintaining the playing fields and practice fields at the Performance Center to ensure a safe and competitive playing surface that meets and exceeds the standards of Major League Soccer (MLS). This role will report directly to the Head Groundskeeper.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist with all turf management responsibilities including mowing, chemical/fertilizer program design & application, aerification, irrigation, pest management, painting, etc.
  • Assist in equipment and irrigation repair and maintenance
  • Assist with administrative duties such as communication, filing, research, and data collection
  • Execute other projects as assigned
  • Approach duties with an innovative & positive mindset, generating new ideas and processes
  • Maintain safety and cleanliness of performance center
  • Travel and ability to work weekends/flexible hours required
  • Other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience in field or turf maintenance
  • Must possess valid Pesticide Applicator License
  • Experience in operating machinery and/or equipment for turf maintenance operations
  • Proven ability to diagnose and solve problems proactively in turf or otherwise
  • Strong interpersonal & communication skills
  • Able to lift 50 pounds of weight frequently throughout the assigned workday
  • Able to work in various degrees of outdoor weather conditions, including but not limited to extreme heat, cold, or rain
  • Ability to work in various positions, including but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling and squatting for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours, in non-traditional settings, including all home games (or other work events) that fall on nights, weekends, and/or holidays

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in a turf management or related field
  • Minimum 1- 2 years of experience of turf management/maintenance in professional sports or other sporting venues
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license or eligible to apply for a valid driver's license
