OUR STORY
- THE CHICAGO CUBS FRANCHISE is a charter member of Major League Baseball’s National League. Since 1876, the team has won the National League pennant 17 times and was the first team to win back-to-back World Series titles in the 1907 and 1908 seasons. In 2016, the Chicago Cubs made history again when the team won its first World Series in 108 years, ending the longest championship drought in North American sports. Known for its ivy-covered outfield walls, hand-operated scoreboard and famous Marquee sign, iconic Wrigley Field has been the home of the Chicago Cubs since 1916, making it the second oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball.
HOW YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE
The Chicago Cubs are seeking a Computer Vision Analyst in the Baseball Sciences Department. The Analyst will work closely with the broader R&D group with a focus on Computer Vision projects. All candidates must demonstrate a strong educational background and/or work experience in computer vision or related fields, but prior experience in - or knowledge of - baseball is not required. The ideal candidate will possess strong quantitative skills, the ability to think critically and creativity, and the ability to communicate effectively to non-technical stakeholders.
THE DAY-TO-DAY:
- Collaborate with Baseball Technology to ensure we are capturing the necessary information to make computer vision projects feasible
- Communicate with Baseball Analytics and Baseball Sciences to understand the desired output of computer vision projects
- Develop computer vision algorithms to extract information from images and video sources
- Collaborate with Baseball Systems to build out automated data pipelines and scale image and video processing
- Stay up to date with academic literature and public research on camera technology and computer vision frameworks and techniques
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
- Experience in developing and deploying computer vision algorithms
- Proficiency with SQL and at least one programming language (Python, R, similar)
- Ability to collaborate with others and work independently on large projects
WHAT SETS YOU APART:
- Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field and 3+ years of job experience in computer vision
- Experience working in baseball and/or with baseball-specific data
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
