JOB TITLE: Women’s Senior Academy Physiotherapist

DEPARTMENT: Medical – Academy

JOB FUNCTION: To lead on the medical management of players in the Women’s academy (Predominately U18’s)

DIRECT REPORTS: Women’s academy physiotherapist.

LOCATION: Chelsea Women’s - Cobham Training Ground and Away Team Travel.

CONTRACT: Permanent, Full Time 5-6 Days Per week

PLAY YOUR PART (Main Responsibilities):

  • To fulfil the lead role of a Chartered Physiotherapist in the assessment, diagnosis and rehabilitation of all Academy team injuries including diagnosis, Injury Rehabilitation and Return to play.
  • To lead on recovery and physical maintenance of all players within the Senior Women’s Academy
  • To lead in the on-field medical management of players during training and games.
  • To lead in the organisation, communication, and management of injured and Fit players within the Women’s academy, Team MDT including integration and communication with the manager, technical staff, Movement Staff & other performance support staff.
  • To lead in the management and organisation of Part Time / Casual Academy staff to help fulfil the academy games schedule.
  • Undertake a progressive and ongoing professional development process and ensure up to date evidence based practice specifically for female youth athletes.
  • Complete all appropriate administrative tasks in line with this role and maintain detailed medical records on the clubs medical record system.
  • To attend matchday’s for the women’s academy team’s
  • To be available to travel to games (Home and Away) Tours and oversees travel as required.
  • To Attend Player medical appointments at various locations, sometimes at short notice.
  • To provide assistance to the Women’s First Team as and when required.
  • To provide up to date injury audit data to wider medical and performance team.

  • To deliver a high quality physiotherapy service to players, in support with other members of the medical staff, and contribute to the daily routines and team approach of the Chelsea Medical department with specific considerations when working with female youth football players.

Qualifications:

  • Member of the health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (MCSP)
  • BSc Physiotherapy & MSc in advanced physiotherapy or other performance related.
  • FA Level 5 Advanced Trauma Medical Management in Football (ATMMiF)

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of post qualification experience in elite sport.
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team with a sports medicine environment preferably.
  • Experience of working with elite youth athletes

Skills and Behaviours:

  • Excellent clinical reasoning and manual therapy skills
  • Excellent problem solving and decision making skills
  • Excellent range of clinical skills with an emphasis on assessment & rehabilitation
  • Excellence in the understanding and delivery of rehabilitation medicine from the plinth to the pitch and the safe transition into training
  • Knowledge of return to play guidelines, physical conditioning and periodisation.
  • Knowledge of use of GPS / Objective return to play markers to establish a robust return to play plan.
  • Excellent management skills to support other junior medical staff / Support Staff.
  • Show a progressive professional development learning pathway evolving a strong clinical paradigm in physiotherapy (in line with CSP registration)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish relationships and influence key stakeholders groups
  • To facilitate and encourage high quality working practices and relationships between relevant departments in Women’s Team Department.
  • Hold a current up to date driving licence
  • Be flexible, reliable dedicated in your approach to work.
