CRITERIA/QUALIFICATIONS:
The Youth Hockey and Fan Development internship will allow you to gain hands-on experience by performing various roles within a fast-paced environment. You will assist and contribute to the organization’s objective of growing and promoting the sport of hockey in the St. Louis area at all levels through our youth hockey programs, events, and game-day activations.

This position is specifically designed for college junior, senior, or graduate-level students who are passionate about hockey and fan development. All Blues interns are expected to be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree or have recently achieved their bachelor’s degree.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with planning and executing youth and community hockey outreach activities (youth hockey programs, street hockey programs, events, games, and other initiatives).
  • Assisting with content related to youth hockey and street hockey programs.
  • Assist with game day activities in our Blues for Kids section. Opportunities include, but are not limited to, selling in the section, promoting our programs, and participating in intermission activities (Youth Hockey Rising Stars and Intermission Relay Race).
  • Manage part-time staff members known as the Street Team during the week for school visits and events. This includes scheduling Street Team members for shifts, tracking hours, and sending Street Team proper information on shifts they are scheduled for.
  • Communicating and gaining proper information from schools/PE teachers to prepare Street Team members for that upcoming shift.
  • Work school visits when needed for the Street Blues Program.
  • Attend and participate in event planning meetings as needed.
  • Organize and communicate with all those requesting information on our programs (Little Blues, Girls Development Program, Try Hockey for Free, Street Team, Street Blues).
  • Assist with communicating with the parents in the Girls Learn to Play Program.
  • Draft emails and newsletters containing updates about youth hockey and fan development events.
  • Act as a point of contact at Centene Community Ice Center for families during Girls Development and Try Hockey for Free events (subject to change with other programs and events).
  • Opportunities to observe and assist in several Blues Youth Hockey and Fan Development programs, including: North City Blues, Blue Note Cup, Blues Youth Hockey Bash, Blues Street Hockey Clinics.
  • Assist the Coordinator of Youth Hockey Development and the Coordinator of Authentics & Auctions on projects one day during the week.
  • Represent the St. Louis Blues organization professionally at all times.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.


Essential Functions:

  • Must have strong written and verbal skills.
  • Availability to work long hours and weekends.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and think and write creatively.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • This position requires the driving of a company vehicle; therefore, the successful candidate must have a clean driving record.


Physical Abilities:

  • Must be able to lift heavy objects.
  • Required to sit, stand, and walk.
  • Frequent stooping, bending, pulling and pushing.


Hours/Time:

  • Company Administrative Hours - M-F, 9:00 am-5:00 pm
  • Internship hours are flexible, varying from 15-30 hours per week
  • Interns must be prepared to work non-traditional work hours, evenings, weekends, holidays, and game nights.
  • October – May
  • Pay: $12.30 an hour


Requirements:

  • Must be a current college junior, senior, or graduate level student in the St. Louis area.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Must be proficient in Excel.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • General office/administrative experience.
  • Organization and attention to detail are a must.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks and take initiative.
  • High ethical standards and a strong sense of confidentiality.
  • Live in the St. Louis or around the area. Must have strong written and verbal skills.
  • Availability to work long hours and weekends.
