Job Title: Head of Rehabilitation
Department: Soccer Operations
Reports to: Director of Medical and Performance
FLSA: Full-Time, Salaried, Exempt
WHAT SETS YOU APART
The Head of Rehabilitation will be primarily responsible for the rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions of the Players. They will coordinate evaluations, rehabilitation protocols, plan of care, communication with relevant stakeholders, maintain progress notes, and discharge notes on all Players as indicated. These notes must be kept on file in the NWSL Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system. This role will report into the Director of Medical & Performance and collaborates closely with the club’s Chief Medical Officer, Assistant Athletic Trainer, Physical Therapists, Head of Sports Science, Head Coach and Vice President of Soccer Operations / Sporting Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work in close collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer, team physicians, the Director of Medical & Performance and all other medical and performance staff members to design, plan, and implement a health, performance, and wellness strategy. Responsibilities of the Head of Rehabilitation are to:
- Lead delivery of rehabilitation process for all short to long term injuries;
- Lead development and enhance the provision of evidence informed return to play phases aligned with current club processes;
- Lead multidisciplinary meetings to update player status, roundtable player needs with core staff and determine next phases at regular and timely intervals;
- Review delivery of programming at regular intervals to evaluate impact and effectiveness.
- Manage any offsite or specialist care included/required in the RTP Process;
- Systematically evaluate player progression through relevant and applicable performance testing, using contemporary technologies;
- Lead sharing of quality and relevant soccer research to high performance staff at periodic intervals – (i.e. In-service);
- Assist with the delivery of gym-based strength and conditioning as needed;
- Provide on-site medical coverage for non-travel training;
- Create holistic plans that include monitoring any changes in mental, psychological, nutrition status, and physical health of the Players during their rehabilitation and discuss with/refer to appropriate Team Staff as indicated;
- Oversee and supervise Medical Partner Physical Therapy Associate(s);
- Provide up-to-date physical therapy evaluation, plan of care, progress notes, and discharge notes maintained in the National Women’s Soccer League’s (NWSL) EMR system;
- Demonstrate interpersonal skills required to work effectively with other High Performance Team members, Players, Coaches, other Team personnel and NWSL staff;
- Maintain professional liability insurance;
- Compile reports as required by the NWSL;
- Comply with all NWSL medical policies and protocols;
- Abide by all local, state, and federal laws and regulations specific to their profession, codes, and standards of their governing bodies, and all applicable NWSL Rules and Team policies (e.g., informed consent, medication management, etc.);
- Attend all activities/meetings/programs as required by the NWSL; and
- Perform other duties as assigned or required by the Club or NWSL.
QUALIFICATIONS

- Successful completion of National Physical Therapy Exam (NPTE)
- State license in Florida or ability to be licensed in a timely manner
- In good standing with Florida or current state licensure board
- CPR certification in Basic Life Support
- Board certified as a Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS) (preferred)
- Additional recommended certifications:
- Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS)
- BOC Certified Athletic Trainer
- Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)
- Corrective Exercise Specialization (NASM-CES) and/or Performance Enhancement Specialization (NASM-PES).
- Four (4) Year College/University Bachelor’s Degree
- Master’s Degree (MPT) or Doctor of Physical Therapy degree (DPT)
- Minimum of four (4) years’ experience as physical therapist since receiving licensure
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a similar role in a team sports environment leading return-to-play (RTP) for elite-level athletes (i.e. professional and/or Olympic)
- Soccer experience preferred
