Nature of Work:

The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing comprehensive athletic training services to the players. This includes injury prevention, assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and management of player health and wellness. The Assistant Athletic Trainer works under the supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer to ensure the athletes are physically prepared and recover from any injuries to optimize their performance on the field.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs as Certified Athletic Trainer in managing the health care of players. Health care includes, but is not limited to first aid/emergency care, on-site injury evaluation, application of appropriate modalities, developing rehabilitation and prevention programs, as well as conducting rehabilitation and making medical referrals
  • Order, maintain and inventory supplies and clinical equipment
  • Keep the training room and clinic area safe, clean and organized
  • Provide medical assistance to the Head Athletic Trainer
  • Comply with all MLS medical policies and protocol
  • Comply with OSHA Standards with regards to blood borne pathogens
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required
  • Participate in community service / educational programs related to sports medicine
  • Assist the Colorado Rapids Development Academy program.
  • Participate in activities, meetings and programs as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by Head Athletic Trainer.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

  • Evening, weekend, and holiday availability, especially during the competitive season.
  • Ability to travel with the team for preseason and away games
  • Physical demands include the ability to lift medical equipment and assist with player mobility or transportation when necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum
    1. Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training or related field.
    2. Certified Athletic Trainer, current NATA certification and in good standing.
    3. Current or eligible for State Licensure
    4. Current CPR certification
    5. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a High Level sports environment, this can include professional, collegiate, or military based.
    6. General office equipment including copier, fax, phone, computer/keyboard, etc.
    7. Company vehicles, forklift and heavy machinery.
    8. Ability to acquire or produce and maintain a valid driver’s license and meet company vehicle driving standards.

  • Preferred
    1. Master’s Degree in Athletic Training or related field.
    2. Experience in high level soccer preferred
    3. Prefer certification: CSCS, PES, LMT, and/or NREMT, Certified Performance Sport Specialist (CPSS)

Competencies/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of sports medicine, injury prevention, assessment, and rehabilitation.
  • Strong understanding of the specific demands of soccer and the potential injuries associated with the sport.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with athletes, coaches, and medical staff.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail in maintaining injury records and rehabilitation plans.
  • Ability to work under pressure in high-intensity environments such as game days and tournaments.

Compensation:

  • Base salary range $70,000 per annum
