TITLE: Athletic Trainer, Orlando City B

DEPARTMENT: Team Operations
REPORTS TO: Head Athletic Trainer

FLSA: Full-Time; Salaried, Exempt

WHAT SETS YOU APART:

You are a resourceful, engaging, and positive Athletic Trainer (ATC) with a desire to further develop a rewarding career in sports medicine. Working under the direction and supervision of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Senior Director of Sports Medicine and High Performance, and a nominated senior athletic trainer mentor, you will deliver day-to-day sports medicine operations for the Orlando City B (OCB) team, as well as work with the Orlando City Soccer Club (OCSC) First & Academy teams as needed. You will be involved in the management of injury prevention strategies, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of players’ medical problems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team including physicians, athletic trainers, physical therapists, dieticians, massage therapists sports scientists, chiropractors, performance coaches, and interns.
  • Develop and deliver athletic training services to OCSC players under the guidance and support of a nominated senior athletic trainer mentor, including but not limited to:
    • Primary on-field and secondary off-field injury evaluation
    • First aid and emergency care
    • Utilize therapeutic modalities for injury treatment
    • Designing and supervising rehabilitation programs
  • Liaise with OCB Strength & Conditioning (S&C) Coach on pre/post-training player status and availability.
  • Involvement with the management of early stages of rehab progression before end-stage return-to-play handover to OCB S&C Coach.
  • Coordinate with OCB S&C Coach all testing and profiling of OCB team players.
  • Ability to work within an Athlete Development Model to understand the developmental progressions of younger players involved with OCB.
  • Awareness of S&C training programs for soccer athletes of all ages and levels, with conceptual knowledge of strength and power, speed, agility, mobility, recovery, pre-training sessions, and early to mid-stage rehabilitation.
  • Consult with players regarding dietary needs, nutritional supplements, and League/FIFA banned substances and triage with the Director of Performance Nutrition.
  • Responsible for all daily formalized communication between the department and senior stakeholders such as senior management, CMO, coaches, OCSC front office, and Orlando Health.
  • Responsible for triage, referral, and reporting to Head ATC and CMO.
  • Supervise and complete the maintenance of an up-to-date roster of player health and participation records in the League-provided electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Ensure the electronic documentation of accurate first report of injury, physician diagnosis, player assessments, player treatments, and return to play dates.
  • Provide a bi-annual injury audit.
  • Complete all administrative work pertaining to the player’s medical insurance.
  • Compile reports as required by the League.
  • Organize physical examinations as required by League regulations.
  • Attend all activities/meetings/programs as required by the League.
  • Comply with all League medical policies and protocols.
  • Under the direction of the club physicians, assist with the organization and maintenance of pharmaceutical inventory and records.
  • Supervise the athletic training room ensuring a clinically safe, clean, and organized area.
  • Travel with the OCB team and ensure ATC competition coverage in case of absence.
  • Order, maintain, and keep an inventory of supplies and clinical equipment.
  • Comply with all OSHA standards and regulations including blood-borne pathogens.
  • Provide medical assistance, support, and match coverage for the first team and academy athletic training staff as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have the ability to interact professionally with all levels of staff, management, players, etc.
  • Must be able to safely lift 40+ pounds and stand for 4+ hours at a time and be able to run to respond to incidents at a moment's notice.
  • Able and willing to travel up to 30% of the time including for all team travel.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese is strongly preferred.

Licenses or Certifications:

  • Florida Board of Athletic Training Licensure obtained or eligible.
  • Board of Certification (BOC) Certified Athletic Trainer, in good standing.
  • NATA membership preferred.
  • Current professional CPR certification (American Red Cross or American Heart Association).
  • Possess personal professional liability insurance.

Educational Experience:

  • Minimum four (4) year Bachelors Degree.
  • Preferred Master’s Degree in a related field of study.
  • Must have graduated from a Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) accredited undergraduate or graduate athletic training program.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year of professional experience in the field of sports medicine.
  • Medical soccer experience preferred (exception may be granted for experience in other professional sports)
