The Purpose:

To offer assistance across the entire Payroll Team, guiding and mentoring junior team members. To ensure the precision of the salary payment system while consistently enhancing and optimizing processes


The Role:

  • To support in processing UK payrolls, ensuring all fixed and variable data is correct, changes are actioned in the agreed time periods, calculations are actioned following appropriate checks and employees are correctly paid and on time.
  • Ensure all payroll deductions, including taxes are processed accurately and paid over to the relevant third parties according to meet legal deadlines.
  • Support relevant year end activities including issuing of P60 forms to employees.
  • Maintenance of pension schemes within the UK to ensure all payments are calculated correctly and are paid on time each month to the relevant pension scheme providers. Including all pension related administration, audits, data quality reports, refunds, and contribution monitoring.
  • Compliance with Auto Enrolment legislation, ensuring that employees have been assessed correctly and in line with the Pension Regulators rules.
  • Audit all UK employees each month for auto-enrolment compliance, check opt-outs are processed correctly within payroll and generate worker status reports each month.
  • Completion of PSA and P11D processes and maintenance of detailed and accurate records.
  • Respond to payroll-related queries from employees, the business, Finance and third parties including HMRC, local authorities in respect of DEO’s and pension scheme providers.
  • Maintain holiday pay module in payroll system, produce monthly reporting and import holiday data each month to generate payments.
  • Regular auditing of documentation to ensure compliance and governance and respond to internal and external audits on all payroll matters, providing data, process information and answering queries as required.
  • For overseas countries with outsourced payroll vendors in place, perform a check on data submissions, arrange bank file uploads and ensure appropriate approvals are maintained. Liaise with external vendors to address queries and corrections as required.
  • To support and mentor junior team members whilst maintaining an accurate salary payment system and continuing to improve on processes.
  • To play an active part as a member of the Payroll team contributing to the overall aims of the department and provide support within the whole Payroll Team on ad-hoc basis.
  • To maintain good working relationships with all colleagues and specifically with other members of the Payroll team, HR Department, Operational Management and Supervision, and employees in general with regard to matters concerning pay.
  • Always ensure confidentiality and adhere to the Company’s policy in respect of Data Protection Compliance.
  • To assist with modernising our ways of working and deliver a smooth transition for any potential changes.
  • Continuous assessment of process improvements. Review, improve and clearly document payroll-related control processes by identifying opportunities and implementing solutions.


The Person:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and to an advanced level
  • Knowledge of: Payroll; Payroll Legislation; Payroll Year End; Pensions; P11D & PSA; NMW;GDPR
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • To be able to work as part of a team and on a sole basis
  • Able to work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work to multiple critical and high impact deadlines throughout the month
  • Previous payroll experience working in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong knowledge of tax legislation and wage laws
  • Previous experience of various payroll software
  • Able to demonstrate time management, administration, and prioritisation skills with diligence.
  • Ability to manage end to end payroll processes
  • Skills to create various reporting requirement
