The Purpose:

The Commercial Analyst will provide day-to-day support for Sales Managers by investigating diverse data sets to build compelling commercial narratives that showcase the unique opportunities delivered via a partnership with the Club.

The Role:

  • Working to a specific brief, the Commercial Analyst will utilise both internal and third-party data sources to complete analysis that will underpin our sales narratives.
  • This role is strictly not about just compiling data points. Interpretation leading to implications is the name of the game and is what creates our competitive advantage.
  • An understanding of the competitive landscape is essential to ensure the Club’s market leading position is maintained and elevated.
  • An understanding of why companies / brands invest in sports marketing is valuable and will involve familiarity with the following types of data:
    • Global fan engagement metrics: TV + streaming audiences, social + digital impressions, online engagement, membership and equivalent media value.
    • Consumer research: brand awareness, consideration, equity, advocacy etc.
    • Financial impact metrics: – EBITDA, margins, CAGR etc.
  • To best leverage the above data, the Commercial Analyst will utilise analysis techniques and work in a collaborative way to produce efficiency across the team.
  • The Commercial Analytics team is lead by a Senior Manager who will be the line manager for the Commercial Analyst role. Two other Analysts and two full-time Associates also sit within the team.
    • Alongside Commercial Analytics are the Strategy, Research, Marketing Science and Planning teams.
  • Whilst reporting to a Commercial Analytics Senior Manager, this role will act as a business partner and direct liaison to our Global Sales team. Over Ten Sales Managers are continuously briefing in requests, mandating an ability to effectively prioritise and keep open lines of communication to manage short-turnaround delivery timelines.
  • Key relationships will also be established with other stakeholders around the Club, including team members based in Manchester. Other stakeholders include Research, Data and Design teams, as well as occasionally liaising directly with third-party data suppliers.

The Person:

  • Previous experience in an analytics role.
  • Excellent analytical skills linked to a strong commercial acumen that generates actionable business insights from data. skills in Microsoft Excel and an efficient way of working to ensure seamless collaboration.
  • Problem solving skills with a solution orientated mindset to deconstruct larger challenges and work efficiently towards an outcome.
  • Collaborative and team-orientated mindset, with the desire continually learn and grow professionally.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, with a focus on remaining composed during period of high workload.
  • Ability to create easily digestible but compelling presentations for non-technical audiences that effectively demonstrate the identified sales narratives.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in an analytics role, with a focus on marketing, sports marketing, sponsorship, financial modelling and/or economics.
  • High-level skills in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables), basic understanding of correlation analysis and/or regression modeling.
  • Experience with social/digital data reporting platforms like SemRush, Adobe Analytics, BrandWatch, Audiense, Salesforce, Blinkfire, and Google Ad Manager.
  • Experience creating presentations, preferably using Apple Keynote.
  • Knowledge of sports marketing media equivalency metrics and their calculation process, including advertising value equivalent (AVE), Nielsen QI, or Gross Media Value (GMV).
