Overview
Major League Soccer (MLS) in a generational growth opportunity, with a new 10-year broadcast deal with Apple, Lionel Messi in Miami and energy building towards World Cup 2026 in North America. To harness this momentum, we are re-imagining our digital ecosystem from the ground up with the goal of growing soccer fans’ connection with MLS and our clubs.
We are looking for an experienced and entrepreneurial VP of Marketing Technology to drive the modernization of our league-wide marketing technology stack. This role will take ownership of existing MarTech platforms (Email, SMS, Push, CDP, CMS, Analytics, etc.) and lead the modernization and transformation of our tech stack, empowering league and club marketers to move quickly, to engage fans more effectively and drive measurable business growth.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the modern Martech landscape, proven experience deploying marketing technology at scale, a willingness to roll up their sleeves and problem-solve when needed, and the ability to work across teams to build consensus and drive adoption of transformational new technologies.
Responsibilities
- Work with the VP, DX and CMO to define a transformational marketing technology strategy that aligns with league and club needs and overall business goals.
- Define strategic business and technology requirements for each platform, enabling efficient and scalable deployment across MLS clubs and business units.
- Drive the implementation of new MarTech technology, updates to existing technology, using leadership and communication skills to build consensus and execute successful rollouts at scale.
- Apply business, technology, and industry expertise to evaluate and select vendors and to set up effective cost models, ensuring they meet the league's needs for scalability, security, and efficiency.
- Collaborate across teams to drive understanding and adoption of tools, growing a culture of innovation, impact and outstanding fan experience.
- Lead marketing innovation and efficiency by unlocking opportunities for automation and AI acceleration of MarTech processes.
- Understand how our data platform architecture impacts customer segmentation and marketing enablement capabilities.
- Stay on top of emerging technologies and industry trends to continuously innovate and optimize the martech stack for performance, cost-efficiency and competitive advantage.
- Unlock analytics + performance data, giving marketers the ability to refine strategies, prove ROI, and drive data-driven decision-making in their day-to-day work.
- Use industry experience and understanding of MarTech best practices to proactively identify and mitigate operational risks.
- Ensure MarTech compliance with relevant data privacy requirements (GDPR, CCPA, etc).

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, information technology, or related field.
- 12+ years of experience, with 10+ years experience in marketing technology, digital marketing, or a similar role, with at least 7 years in a leadership position.
Required Skills
- Deep understanding of the current martech landscape, including CRM systems, data management platforms, direct communication tools, marketing automation tools, personalization, and digital analytics.
- Demonstrated experience working with multiple marketing channels and compliance considerations for each (CAN-SPAM, double opt-ins, consent management, etc).
- Proven track record of deploying marketing technology solutions at scale, particularly across multiple business units.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and make data-driven strategic decisions.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, capable of communicating the value of MarTech tools to less technical colleagues and driving organizational change.
- High-level of commitment to a quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity and compliance
- Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, team environment
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing
- Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Desired Skills
- Familiarity with marketing activation best practices
- Experience with using CMS technology for cross-channel marketing content distribution
- Passion for soccer and a commitment to growing the sport in North America
- Ability to travel and to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Total Rewards
Starting Base Salary: $200,000 – $250,000. MLS/SUM base salaries are contingent upon several factors including individual qualifications, market financials, and operational business needs.
