Overview
The Senior Manager / Manager, Match Day Operations is responsible for leading, in part, all aspects of game day operations League-wide including but not limited to, game operations and stadium operations for Major League Soccer and Soccer United Marketing
Responsibilities
- Lead weekly and annual communication to all 30 MLS Clubs through direct written correspondence and hosted conferences (in-person and virtual).
- Staff and coordinate the schedule for the MLS Command Center in New York City during the League Season to represent operations working alongside other MLS departments (e.g., Competition, Communications and Broadcasting).
- Lead all aspects of and participate in the Operations Account Manager program.
- Manage a comprehensive incident response protocol and league-wide training program (Crisis Management Team).
- Review in-stadium and game related incidents throughout the season and playoffs.
- Assist in onboarding expansion clubs.
- Play a critical role in developing and maintaining department initiatives and policies.
- Manage hiring and onboarding process by interviewing, selecting, orienting, and training part-time employees (League Observers, Consultants).
- Accomplish team results by communicating job expectations and leading the Performance Management process:
- Plan, monitor, and review performance.
- Coach and counsel employees.
- Develop and implement department procedures and productivity standards and reinforce Company policies.
- Assist in the preparation of presentations to executives and department leads.
- Develop personal growth opportunities for directly supervised employees.
- Maintain professional knowledge by attending educational workshops and seminars.
- Provide operations support at select SUM events (e.g., MexTour, Leagues Cup, Campeones Cup)
- Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Senior Director, Operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management or a related field
- 7+ years of proven experience in event management for large sporting events
Required Skills
- Experience in managing staff
- Experience managing budgets.
- Experience in writing policy documents.
- Interpersonal skills and confidence to present verbal and written presentations and briefings to both internal and external key stakeholders.
- Superior organization, project management skills and attention to detail.
- Prominent level of commitment to quality of work and organizational ethics, integrity, and compliance.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, team environment.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- Demonstrate decision making and problem-solving skills.
- Meticulous with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Ability to travel and to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to work remotely while on business travel.
Desired Skills
- Knowledge of the sport of soccer.
- Master's degree in business or Sports & Entertainment Administration.
- Spanish Speaker.
Total Rewards
Starting Base Salary: $90,000-$105,000. MLS/SUM base salaries are contingent upon several factors including individual qualifications, market financials, and operational business needs.
