Overview

Major League Soccer’s Business Insights & Analytics is a centralized analytics function, supporting the league by aligning long and short-term strategy with data and providing impactful data driven insights, analysis, and recommendations.

The group is seeking a new Director who will develop and oversee reporting and analytics for MLS Season Pass, MLS’s new partnership with Apple, and live matches on Linear TV across all MLS & SUM properties. This includes viewership, subscriber health (forecasts, conversion, retention, etc.), and subscriber LTV. We are looking for a Sr. Manager that is highly curious, motivated, and analytical, while also able to distill clarity from complexity, with an entrepreneurial desire to innovate.

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

  • Subject matter expert in streaming and linear content performance, taking end-to-end ownership of the vertical and meeting the needs of both internal and external partners.
  • Define critical metrics for content performance aligned to enterprise strategy; build subscriber projection and churn models.
  • Effectively communicate and socialize results and findings throughout the organization in a simple and intuitive narrative format.
  • Support team members with regular dashboards and reporting. Manage multiple longer-term data and analytics projects.
  • Leverage advanced data analytics and statistics to answer complex business questions.
  • Partner with technology team to continually integrate the tools, methods, and processes supporting analysis.
  • Support the team and enterprise with additional responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Minimum a bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Math, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or similar domain.
  • 8+ years of experience in a quantitative analysis role preferably at a steaming, subscription service, linear TV research, or digital media.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience mentoring and growing a team of analysts.
  • Experience with enterprise level reporting and ad hoc analyses to drive large, complex, cross-functional reporting that aligns to enterprise strategy.
  • Adept technical/functional experience in Excel, BI Tool(s), SQL and other programming languages (R, Python, etc).

Required Skills

  • Proven track record of deriving insights from large data sources and presenting in a clear and concise narrative form.
  • Adept in a query language (SQL).
  • Adept in a BI tool (Power BI, Tableau).
  • Adept in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with a programming language (R, Python).
  • Experience with statistical data analysis.
  • High-level of dedication to a quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity, and compliance.
  • Superior organization, project management skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and written.
  • Possess effective decision-making skills with a solutions-oriented approach.

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of the sport of soccer.
  • Ability to travel and to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Total Rewards

Starting Base Salary: $115,000 – $165,000. MLS/SUM base salaries are contingent upon several factors including individual qualifications, market financials, and operational business needs.
