Overview
This temporary position will support across several departments to manage Major League Soccer and Soccer United Marketing’s intellectual property portfolio. The intellectual property portfolio includes trademarks and copyrights for MLS clubs and other MLS/SUM properties, including MLS NEXT Pro, MLS NEXT and MLS GO.
Responsibilities
- Perform searches and clearances for new proposed MLS and MLS club marks
- Partner with business teams to review IP matters with respect to new initiatives
- Submit filings for new marks, including collection and submission of specimen
- Manage USPTO office action responses
- Make timely filings to ensure ongoing protection of existing marks
- Advise on IP protection strategy and prepare cease and desist letters, as necessary
- Communicate with MLS and MLS NEXT PRO clubs on all intellectual property matters
- Manage outside counsel, particularly with respect to international IP portfolio management and MLS patent filings
- Work cross-functionally to manage risks, while providing practical and creative legal guidance
- Perform special projects and other assignments as requested
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience at a top tier or IP law firm and/or corporate legal department; in-house experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor
- Admission to NY State Bar

Total Rewards
Hourly Rate: $60 - $70/hour.
