This position will be responsible for providing coaching, mentorship, and training to Los Angeles Dodgers minor league players and staff in the area of baseball specific mental performance, life skill development, and cross-cultural transition of athletes to the United States.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Collaborate in the design and implementation of systems to improve overall mental performance (development, maintenance, and enhancement) within the Dodger organization.
- To be clear, this position would primarily focus on covering both our complexes located in Glendale, Arizona, and Dominican Republic (Camelback Ranch and Campos Las Palmas).
- Assume responsibility for baseball-specific mental performance enhancement for Dodger minor leaguers at Camelback Ranch and Campos Las Palmas.
- Increase staff understanding and recognition of mental performance, life skill acquisition, and transitional skills.
- Assist in identifying candidates for clinical counseling and assist in making appropriate and timely referrals while practicing a moral/ethical system of communication with staff members.
- Provide education on various topics within mental skills, life skills, resilience, leadership, and cultural transition(s).
- Full attendance at Minor League Spring Training, Draft-Camp, Fall Instructional League, and Dominican Fall Instructional League to support staff and educate players.
- Collaborate/Communicate with departments (i.e., Player Development, Performance Science, Scouting, International Scouting, Medical, Performance, Dominican Operations, and Front Office) on the identification, evaluation, and implementation of staff professional development.
- Assist in managing and assembling in-house workshops, people projects, and life skill development through sport. Specifically targeting our complex leagues and rookie ball levels.
- Communicate regularly with other organization directors, coordinators, and coaches to develop interdisciplinary plans for players.
- In addition to above, we ask for the willingness to perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Basic Requirements/Qualifications:
- A Master’s or Doctorate degree related to the field of sport psychology.
- Bilingual in English / Spanish and cultural proficiency required.
- Must be willing to travel 40-50% of the time (domestic and international).
- Ability to work non-traditional hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Experience of relating applied mental performance principles to baseball.
- Experience working with athletes and coaches in group and individual settings (past athletic experience would be beneficial).
- Able to relocate near Camelback Ranch (Arizona) or Campo Las Palmas (Santo Domingo, DR).
- Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC®) via the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP). Not required, but highly preferred (or working towards).
- References of prior professional work ethic and dedication to profession.
- Excellent communication and written skills along with high level computer competency.
- Previous professional work experience preferred.
- Willingness to learn, adapt and navigate highly competitive and changing environments.
- Ability to handle confidential matters with sensitivity and discretion.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced team environment with attention to detail.
- Possess excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
