Track Systems Technician

Want to be one of the hundreds of people that work together to make Formula 1 happen? We need a Track Systems Technician to add their skills to the force behind the sport.

Ensuring the performance of the F1 digital ground-based video and telemetry system during F1 events, your work will be split between the Event Technical Centre at the race circuits, and our Media & Technical Centre in Biggin Hill.

Reporting into the Team Manager, you will:

  • Work with the team during an event to commission and take responsibility for the ground- based pick-up system enabling a path for the unidirectional 10 GHz standard communication system and the bidirectional 5 GHz telemetry system from the on-car system to receivers connected to trackside sites, and the links there on.

  • Installation of cables (fibre optic and copper), electronic and RF equipment.

  • Operation of light machinery and tools.

  • General wiring and termination of communication cable, including fibre optic and copper cable.

  • Inspection and testing of optical/electrical/electronic systems including operation of necessary tools and measurement equipment.

  • Initiate and monitor race and test sessions from the broadcast Centre.

  • Analysis of system data/results and fault finding of associated systems.

  • Operation of specialized software and general MS Windows applications

  • Technical and mechanical maintenance/repair of fibre optic cable, equipment, and tools

  • Rig and de-rig duties include installation, commissioning, and decommissioning of antenna at heights whilst conforming to existing safety control measures.

  • Assist with heavy lifting and manual handling.

Specification:

  • NVQ Level 3

  • Advanced Diplomas in Engineering related field (Electronic, Electrical and RF Comms) and / or experience undertaking a similar practical role.

  • Experience in a manual role, i.e. installation or rigging

  • Working in a busy and challenging environment to achieve specific objectives.

  • Working in an effective team

  • Reading, understanding, and working to technical drawings.

  • Working knowledge of MS Windows based applications / systems

  • Basic knowledge of computer networks

  • Comfortable working at heights

  • Ability to learn new Technical Systems

  • A systematic approach to fault finding.

  • Excellent communication skills both written and spoken.

  • EU driving license, desirably with experience driving abroad.

  • Ability and willingness to work long, unsociable hours, weekends, and some Bank Holidays
