Reporting organizationally to the FIFA26 USA Head of Environment, the Environmental Manager will work in close collaboration with the other members of the FIFA26 Sustainability & Human Rights team, the FIFA Sustainability & Environment Department and other key individuals to promote and ensure environmental protection throughout FIFA World Cup 2026 preparation and operations as per the FIFA World Cup 26 Sustainability & Human Rights Strategy. The focus is on managing initiatives to foster sustainable FIFA World Cup infrastructure and operations across all Host Countries.

THE POSITION

The main responsibilities and oversights of the Environmental Manager for the FIFA World Cup 26™ include:

  • Help to develop and implement programs to address FWC26-related environmental issues, challenges and opportunities as per the Sustainability & Human Rights Strategy for the tournament across the three Host Countries;
  • Work with the Stadium Management functional area to ensure that all FIFA World Cup stadiums achieve sustainable building certification for operations and maintenance as well as for design & build and construction management for any relevant renovations, where applicable;
  • Provide guidance to stadiums to support their green building certification process;
  • Develop and deliver an sustainability training programmes for all official training sites of the FWC26;
  • Deliver sustainable operations training and facilitate knowledge-sharing for other FIFA World Cup sites with a focus on leaving a positive and lasting legacy of sustainable operations;
  • Work with the FIFA26 Sustainable Supply Chain Manager on the sustainable procurement of green building materials that maximize resource efficiency and reduce emissions, waste and negative impacts on biodiversity and human health for temporary and permanent infrastructure across FIFA World Cup sites;
  • Work on initiatives that will protect fauna and flora and ensure the protection of stray animals in areas impacted by the tournament;
  • Support the Director of Sustainability & Human Rights and the Head of Environment with the development and integration of sustainable building and operations criteria and standards into tournament policies, processes, procedures, guidelines and other tools across FWC26 Inc.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating of meetings, workshops and site visits;
  • Support the delivery of the tournament’s sustainability reporting throughout the project.

YOUR PROFILE

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in management of complex, multi-stakeholder sustainable building certification projects, with at least two years of experience in the United States and preferably also in Canada and Mexico;
  • Knowledge of and experience in applying green-building certification schemes and assessing and evaluating the sustainability performance of buildings and infrastructure solutions, and their operations and maintenance ;
  • Experience in developing training curricula (online material, videos, guidelines, etc.) and delivering training sessions;
  • Operational experience working in stadiums and arenas;
  • Keen understanding of key stakeholders, operations, challenges and opportunities in the field of sustainable building across all three Host Countries;
  • Experience in creating project concepts and coordinating their implementation;
  • Concrete understanding of environmental legal framework across US, Canadian and/or Mexican Host Cities
  • International work experience, especially with Mexico and Canada and with working as part of a multi-cultural team;
  • Proven track-record in fostering, building and maintaining relationships with groups of experts and/or stakeholders.
  • Experience working in the field of sports and events and, in particular, mega sporting events;
  • Experience working with local governments and other governmental actors in the field of environment in the Host Countries
  • Work experience related to biodiversity in urban settings;
  • Experience with topics related to animal rights;
  • Familiarity with and/or experience in working within the frameworks of sustainability event management systems such as ISO 20121 (Event Sustainability Management Systems – Requirements with guidance for use);
  • Experience in reporting against international standards such as Global Reporting Initiative sustainability reporting standards.
  • Fluent in English. Spanish and/or French proficiency is a plus
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio & Project) and planning software and online collaboration tools
