Sitting within the Infrastructure & Technical Services Department, Technical Services (along with Venue Design, Overlay, Pitch Management, Power & Energy) aims to deliver the most engaging, innovative, and accessible World Cup experience for all athletes, fans, partners, and the community. Reporting organizationally to the Executive Director Stadium & Venue Management, the Head of Technical Services will help serve Technical Services efforts for the FIFA World Cup 2026 that for the first time ever, is hosting 48 teams and 1,200+ players across 3 countries and 16 venues. This role will be responsible for directing the technical services department and ensuring that all technological systems and services run smoothly and efficiently for the Toronto and Vancouver venues. Further, this role will oversee managing infrastructure, broadcasting facilities, communication networks, and other operational aspects related to technology and services during the tournament.

THE POSITION

The main responsibilities of the Head of Technical Services for the FIFA World Cup 2026 include:

  • Coordinate and manage all technical aspects of the tournament with all stakeholders to ensure seamless operations.
  • Establishing relationships to internal and external stakeholders and manage expectations.
  • Oversee the planning, scoping, implementation and maintenance of technical disciplines and services.
  • Project manage all technical services and disciplines in terms of time, quality and budget as well as mitigate and monitor potential risks.
  • Develop and execute contingency plans to address potential technical challenges or disruptions.
  • Liaise with vendors, suppliers, and technical partners to ensure timely delivery of services and equipment.
  • Lead a team of technical experts responsible for different aspects of tournament operations.
  • Ensure compliance with FIFA's technical standards and guidelines across all tournament venues.
  • Monitor and analyze technological trends to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  • Act as a point of contact for technical inquiries and provide support to resolve any technical issues that may arise during the tournament.

Education & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or similar level of higher education

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in technical services, preferably for major sports events
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to read architectural and construction drawings
  • Great understanding of temporary infrastructure and engineering disciplines
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Positive attitude, patience, and persistence as well as good social skills for establishing relationships to key stakeholders

Languages:

  • Fluent in English. French proficiency a plus.

Technology:

  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio & Project) and planning software and online collaboration tools
