Director, Medical Administration, FIFA World Cup 2026

Reporting organizationally to the FWC26 Chief Safety & Security Officer and FIFA Tournament Medical Lead the Director Medical Administration will be a key member of the FIFA26 Medical Services team, and work in close collaboration with the designated Venue Medical Officers, Match Doctors, local providers, venue management teams and other key individuals responsible for delivering the medical services designed to provide rapid access to emergency care in time-critical situations by a combination of healthcare professionals and ambulances covering venues, events and participant groups on-site or stationed remotely. They will ensure that where cover is off-site, a clear communications system will be available to participants, and response times must be appropriate to clinical needs. They will define a clear process by which PMA teams can access priority care of highest international standards and the other participant groups can access non-emergency specialist care and primary/family care.

THE POSITION

The main responsibilities and oversights of the Director Medical Administration for the FIFA World Cup 26™ include:

  • Based on the FIFA Medical Strategy
    • Develop the FWC2026 Medical Plan for key venues (stadiums, hotels, team base camps, training sites, etc.), the tournament and tournament-related events (test events, draws and fan activities) and relevant participant groups (i.e. health concept for PMA teams, VIP guests and Workforce) and the overall management, direction, supervision and provision of all medical services for the FWC2026 in close collaboration with the FIFA Tournament Medical Lead.
    • Develop and plan the delivery of IBC and Media Centre medical services in collaboration with Broadcasting.
  • Leadership
    • Support the development of the medical command and control structure, including a single point of contact for medical issues at the tournament in general and at each venue.
    • Ensure the implementation of a dedicated training program for the field-of-play medical teams at all venues in the FIFA Framework for the assessment and extrication of players based on the FIFA Emergency Care Manual.
    • Oversee and direct senior and medical managers at FIFA26 HQ.
    • Work closely with counterparts in Safety & Security responsible for Emergency Preparedness.
    • Work closely with other functional areas as needed for smooth service delivery.
  • Guarantee implementation of FIFA Medical standards for all participants as per the FIFA Medical Handbook
    • Ensure the availability of adequately trained and equipped, multidisciplinary medical teams at all venues and events.
    • Ensure emergency transport (ambulances, air rescue etc.) for PMA teams, Referees, Guests and FIFA Workforce from all tournament-related event sites in collaboration with Host Cities.
    • Based on the designation of suitable hospitals (considering their level of care, capacity, specialties, emergency and intensive care etc.) offering preferred access and VIP pathways to PMA teams, Referees, Guests and FIFA Workforce for PMA teams at all venues by the Venue Medical Officers, define the need for contracts etc.
    • Ensure that specialized sports radiology, concussion and cardiology services are identified for PMA teams at all venues and team base camp locations.
    • Make sure that all stadium medical services for players and referees meet the facility, staff and equipment requirements defined in the FIFA Medical Handbook.
    • Develop a communication system that ensures ambulance coverage of all team and referee training sessions.
    • Ensure VIP medical clinics at the stadia are set up, equipped and staffed for Guests and contract providers.
    • Support hotel or on-call services for Guests and Workforce at each venue and contract providers.Ensure Stadium Authorities and Host Cities meet their obligations in the planning and delivery of medical services to spectators, fans, suppliers, contractors, volunteers and other participants at the stadia, fan fests and other public events, as per FIFA requirements.
    • Ensure Host Cities meet their obligations in the planning and delivery of medical services to all participants at tournament-related events, such as the preliminary draw, draw, FIFA Congress and FIFA Council meetings.
  • Relationship with primary stakeholder group of team doctors
    • Investigate and address the requirement of temporary licensing for team doctors
    • Plan, prepare and participate in the delivery of the Team Doctor Workshop within the Team Workshop organized by Team Services prior to the main tournamentIntegrate online training resources in their preparation for the tournament.
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive medical reporting system across all venues and participant groups using a standardized approach to data collection.
    • Implement an immediate notification system for serious incidents in players, referees, delegation members, Guests and Workforce.
    • Collate all the information for the financial planning and budgeting of the tournament medical services based on the scope and requirements.
  • Administrative tasks
    • Negotiate and contract all emergency service providers for PMA teams at the stadium
    • Contract hotel or on-call providers for Guests and Workforce
    • Create schedule and agenda for medical meetings
    • Develop contracts for all Venue Medical Officers
    • Review and amend medical Circular
    • Oversee the administration of any temporary licensing requirements
    • Assist in developing and uploading of information for PMA team doctors to the new Event Platform
    • Create written information for Guests and Workforce on services available during tournament

YOUR PROFILE

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably aligned to Medicine or Event Management
  • Master’s Degree is an additional asset
  • At least 10 years of professional experience in medical services at elite sports events.Organising and directing medical services at major international and national football events in the US
  • Proven track record in managing complex projects, including pre-event planning, event-time implementation, and post-event analysis in the US.
  • Sound understanding of the US medical regulations and laws applicable in cities, counties and federal states and the different roles and responsibilities of stakeholder’s ability to maintain these standards in different settings.
  • Extensive professional network within the national sports and football medicine community and emergency service providers to draw from during project implementation.
  • Longstanding experience in multicultural and multi-professional environments and establishing sound working relationships with people of other cultures and backgrounds.
  • Fluent in English. Spanish and/or French proficiency is a plus
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio & Project) and planning software and online collaboration tools
