Assistant Director of Engineering

POSITION SUMMARY :
The Assistant Director of Engineering manages the day-to-day engineering operations at Coors Field, ensuring the stadium is maintained to the highest standards. This includes overseeing building maintenance and repairs, managing a team of engineering staff, and coordinating multiple capital improvement projects. The role involves management of ballpark improvements and capital maintenance projects, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and with minimal disruption to game-day operations. The Assistant Director works closely with internal stakeholders, subcontractors, vendors, architects, engineers, and general contractors to ensure that all projects meet the organization's needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support, maintain, and enhance Club Facilities, including Coors Field, Salt River Fields, the Dominican Complex, and McGregor Square.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of engineers, trades and maintenance staff.
- Foster a collaborative work environment, ensuring accountability and professional development.
- Oversee the operation and maintenance of all building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, structural, etc.), ensuring they run efficiently and safely.
- Oversite of the Manager of Engineering who manages the day to day engineering staff.
- Assign work and supervise daily engineering activities to ensure maintenance tasks meet industry standards and are performed safely.
- Plan, budget, and manage capital repair and construction projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and with minimal disruption to operations.
- Monitor project progress, track expenditures, and ensure compliance with local building codes and MLB regulations.
- Manage external vendors and subcontractors for specialized services, ensuring compliance with safety standards, quality, and timelines. Oversee contract negotiations, billings, and payment applications.
- Provide engineering support during games and special events, ensuring all systems are fully operational and any issues are addressed promptly.
- Coordinate emergency repairs as needed to minimize stadium downtime.
- Manage the operating budget, including approving invoices, identifying cost codes, and making financial decisions for operational and capital projects.
- Continually assess and improve maintenance programs, provide project status updates, and develop financial projections for capital projects and the engineering operating budget.
OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review bids, negotiate contracts, manage project schedules, and provide regular updates to the Senior Director and stakeholders.
- Utilize blueprints, equipment diagrams, and manufacturer’s installation manuals to complete assigned projects.
- Lead weekly meetings to discuss job progress, maintenance updates, and schedules.
- Jobsite oversite to assess progress/quality and attend project site meetings.
- Review project job costing and maintenance budgets to ensure alignment with financial goals.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Structural, Civil, or Architectural Engineering or Construction Management or at least 7 years of equivalent experience as a leader in construction or facilities management
- PMP-CP Certification preferred
- Bilingual English and Spanish, written and spoken preferred
- At least 5 years of experience in construction project management or facilities management required
- At least 5 years of successful supervisory experience required
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- OSHA 30-hour forklift and scissor lift certifications preferred
- Experience with capital improvement and construction projects, including project management and vendor coordination.
- Knowledge of building, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
- Detail orientation sufficient to organize and lead multiple project tasks
- Computer Skills – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Scheduling Software
- Ability to work well with co-workers and supervisors in a team environment.
- Must have a valid driver's license in good standing.
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including exposure to heat, cold, noise, confined spaces, and elevated areas like catwalks, rooftops, and scaffolding.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders safely, work at heights and maintain balance while working in elevated or awkward positions including scaffolding or rooftops.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, tools, and materials (up to 50 lbs regularly, with occasional lifting of up to 75 lbs).
- Must be able to push, pull, carry or maneuver heavier items (with additional manpower or appropriate devices).
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, and occasionally crouching.
- Ability to handle and operate tools and machinery, including power, hand, and diagnostic equipment.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, especially during game days or major events.
- Ability to work long hours for extended project timelines.
- Regular exposure to all weather conditions, both in extreme cold and heat
WORK SCHEDULE:
- Must be able to work Mon. through Fri. 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, flexible hours and game days, which include nights and weekends.
- Hours may vary due to project requirements such as game day duties, special event schedules, etc.
- Will require being on call for off-hour emergency calls or providing support for service issues or failures at any time.
- May require travel domestically or internationally for capital repair planning and support.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
- Annual Salary Range of $110,000 to $125,000. This is a regular status, full-time position.
- As a candidate for this position, your salary and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, job-related skills, and any other factors the Colorado Rockies consider relevant to the hiring decision for this position.
