Data Analyst

Chicago Fire Football Club is a Major League Soccer team that was founded in 1997. The Club returned to Soldier Field as well as opened a new 50,000 square foot business office in the heart of the city. With tremendous growth and expansion, the Club is laying the foundation for an ambitious vision that will transform the Club in the coming years.

Position Overview:

Chicago Fire FC is hiring a data analyst to work with the club’s sporting staff. The data analyst will be responsible for delivering data-driven metrics, predictive models, analysis, and visualizations. This position will support Football Operations stakeholders by deriving actionable insights from varied datasets. The analyst will work with colleagues in the analytics department to set data standards and best practices across the club.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with analytics department colleagues to develop models and analyses to inform football operations decision-making

  • Contribute to the design and delivery of all analysis support, including training, pre-match, in-game, post-match, individual player support, and scouting/player monitoring

  • Present and communicate analyses to appropriate stakeholders

  • Ensure all data processes are efficient, reliable and in line with club standards and time frames

  • Develop strong working relationships across the multi-disciplinary team

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Data Science, Statistics, Economics, or a related field, or equivalent work experience

  • 1+ years of data analysis experience

  • Demonstrated experience with statistical software (e.g. R, Python)

  • Demonstrated experience with SQL and relational databases

  • Demonstrated experience analyzing data to support decision-makers or derive insights

  • Strong knowledge of statistical analysis, machine learning and predictive modeling

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and an ability to collaborate with non-technical audiences

  • User empathy and a willingness to work directly with football operations personnel

  • An understanding of football and desire to learn about football analytics

  • Ability to work non-traditional hours, in non-traditional settings, including all home games (or other work events) that fall on nights, weekends, and/or holidays

  • Must be fully vaccinated and boosted for COVID-19

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience analyzing football data

  • Familiarity with data engineering tools and architectures

  • An interest in web development and machine learning model deployment
