Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a lead contact for hockey media relations
  • Manage incoming media requests from written, radio and television outlets for Hurricanes players, management and coaches
  • Create and distribute written media materials required by the National Hockey League including game notes for all home and road games and the digital media guide
  • Coordinate media access for all home practices and games including fulfilling individual broadcast requirements from local and national rightsholders such as pre-game and in-game interviews, lockerroom camera shots, and the league-mandated mic’d up review process
  • Process all media credential requests for local media, visiting teams, broadcasts and scouts including the creation of media passes, press box seat maps and booth allocations
  • Manage our public relations website, CanesPR.com, and our PR-related social channel (@CanesPR), highlighting key statistical and community information and posting daily media clippings, statistical packages and game notes
  • Manage the press box on home game nights including the production of line charts and in-game notes and handling any problems that may arise for media and visiting team staff
  • Collaborate with the digital department on releasing and promoting hockey and community news from internal channels in a way that maximizes impact
  • Hire, manage and process payroll for all part-time media relations staff including office interns and game-night part-time employees


Experience:

  • Candidates with experience in communications with an NHL franchise will be prioritized
  • College degree strongly preferred
  • Excellent writing ability and interpersonal skills
  • Strong hockey knowledge required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience producing documents and publications using Adobe InDesign
  • Must be highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Must be able to work irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays when necessary
  • Must pass criminal background check
