The Carolina Hurricanes Foundation strives to meet the health and education needs of children, with a focus on underserved populations and strengthening youth hockey in our communities.

This role will oversee the day-to-day management of the Carolina Hurricanes Foundation. The work of the Hurricanes Foundation is a key element in the franchise’s effort to help address community challenges while continuing to promote access to the Hurricanes and the game of hockey. The Foundation provides the organization with the means to deepen and strengthen its ties to the community through visible and high-impact charitable activities.

This position is responsible for leading all aspects of the foundation’s community-centric activities, including fundraising, grant-making, community outreach, and volunteerism. The position requires an active and visible presence in the community.

This role requires skills in event management, budgeting, grant-making, grant presentation, in-game fundraising, and brand-raising activities. The Executive Director is responsible for communicating with the Foundation Board of Directors through regularly scheduled meetings and communications. The Executive Director is also responsible for telling the Foundation’s story to fans and community leaders while serving as a liaison for the organization with various community, corporate, and government organizations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Carolina Hurricanes Foundation.
  • Create and establish new relationships and fundraising opportunities within the Foundation’s area of influence.
  • Ensure the Foundations goals are in alignment with the overall goals of the Hurricanes Organization.
  • Perform site visits to existing and potential grant recipients.
  • Help with the fulfillment of all grants awarded each grant cycle.
  • Prepare and execute board meetings, currently on a quarterly basis.
  • Communicate effectively with the Board all key information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.
  • Take the lead role in coordinating, planning, and executing the Foundations major fundraisers throughout the year.
  • Continue to build and maintain a donor database.
  • Collaborate with creative team to create and edit an Annual Report.
  • Create an annual budget for approval by the Board of Directors and maintain that budget throughout the year.
  • Work with Hurricanes marketing team to maintain website and increase social media efforts.
  • Work with the Hurricanes accounting team to track and manage all financials for the Foundation.
  • Lead and direct game night, on-line, 50/50, and other auctions throughout the home schedule.
  • Mange the day-to-day activities and professional development of two Foundation employees.

Qualifications:

  • Five or more years of leadership experience in Foundation or Community relations field strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with a Board of directors and the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships.
  • Experience in developing and implementing charitable programs and special events.
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to lead and coach staff.
  • Ability to set and achieve strategic objectives and goals while managing the financial aspects of the Foundation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in all computer programs and database use.
  • Valid NC Driver’s license and acceptable driving record
  • Pass criminal background check.
