The role of the Assistant Finance Analyst

Reporting to the Finance Manager (On-Field), the main purpose of the Assistant Finance Analyst role is to ’business partner’ effectively with various ‘On-Field’ departments, helping financial performance to be clearly understood by key stakeholders.

Our ‘On-Field’ business has a large cost base, and the Assistant Finance Analyst will accurately record, and support the management of these costs whilst adding value by providing useful insights. ‘On-Field’ also has numerous income streams, and the Assistant Finance Analyst will ensure that these are accurately accounted for.

Main Accountabilities

  • Ensure delivery of accurate, timely and informative monthly management accounts for the relevant ‘On-Field’ departments covering P&L reporting and balance sheet reconciliation.
  • Draw meaningful and insightful conclusions from historical financial data and provide recommendations to budget owners on ways to improve financial performance.
  • Aid in the production of annual budgets and periodic reforecasts for relevant areas.
  • Support the audit process by providing relevant financial information and documentation.
  • Ad-hoc support in management of key ‘On-Field’ stakeholder relationships.
  • Ad-hoc support to relevant non-financial teams to assist them in understanding finance matters, resolving issues and making informed decisions.
  • Ad-hoc duties and responsibilities as required to support the finance team.
  • To ensure compliance with the Club’s Safeguarding Policy and processes.
  • To ensure compliance with the Club’s Code of Conduct.

General Club Accountabilities

  • To ensure compliance with all relevant Club policies, including safeguarding, health and safety policies and with specific reference to the data regulations (GDPR and PECR)
  • To ensure compliance with all relevant legal, regulatory, ethical and social requirements

  • To keep confidential any information gained regarding the Club and its personnel

  • To ensure compliance with all Matchday Safeguarding processes and the Club’s Safeguarding Policy and processes

Person Specification – Essential Personal Characteristics

  • Part-qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) at latter stages of qualification.
  • Previous management accounting experience.
  • Strong commercial and business awareness.
  • Ability to manipulate complex data and present it clearly and accurately to finance & non-finance colleagues.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels clearly and successfully, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to quickly build strong and effective working relationships with colleagues across the business with the confidence and credibility to challenge appropriately and to influence decisions.
  • Strong IT skills across the MS Office suite including intermediate/advanced Excel skills and previous exposure to commonly recognised accounting systems.

Person Specification – Desirable Characteristics

  • An interest in football/sport.
