The Role of Academy Assistant Coach & Performance Analyst

The successful candidate will coach within the Academy Coaching Department whilst also overseeing the age group performance analysis, to enable the team to achieve maximum development both individually and collectively. You will also be required to work effectively with parents/guardians of players to create strong working relationships and togetherness. You may also be required to work with other Academy age groups as and when required to deliver a best-in-class coaching and performance analysis provision.

Main Accountabilities

Coaching

  • To ensure that any concerns you observe, or are raised with you in your role, are shared with the Safeguarding Team through appropriate channels.
  • To motivate and develop the individual players to enable them to win games whilst working within the Club’s coaching philosophy and style of play framework
  • Form positive relationships with players and motivate them towards achieving their potential, ensuring their well-being and holistic development.
  • To have the ability to identify individual strengths and unacceptable weaknesses with the ability to apply appropriate coaching, and tactical development tailored to the individual player.
  • To implement individual development plans for your designated age group squad, whilst having an age specific understanding of technical, tactical, physical, psychological development and identifying age-appropriate teaching.
  • To engage within the retain and release process as part of the IDT and phase.
  • Ensure cohesion, conflict resolution and management of individual players is upheld to high quality professional standards and a positive team ethic is always maintained.
  • To work collaboratively with all academy staff and to maintain relationships with the player’s and their key stakeholders.
  • To work in line with the strategy of EPPP as agreed by the Club.
  • To work as part of the inter disciplinary team (IDT) to provide a holistic development plans for the individual players.
  • To complete all club administrative duties in line with EPPP audit requirements.
  • Attend all relevant coaching CPD events both internally and externally at the request of the Head of Academy Football Development.
  • Help to ensure the Academy is continually achieving the standards required to retain its category status within the EPPP guidelines.
  • Any other relevant tasks and duties as directed by senior Academy or Football Department management.

Performance Analysis

  • Coordinate the filming of games, training and any other necessary sessions for the designated age group.
  • Code games & training sessions for the designated age group. This will be age-appropriate and relevant to the age group they are working with.
  • Code and provide each player with their individual clips from each game.
  • Share all video footage and coded events with staff & players via Hudl.
  • Assist with the Academy’s databasing process which is aligned through all Academy age groups. Help to store clips into match, training & individual databases to streamline the analysis process and reinforce the Academy Coaching Programme.
  • Work in collaboration with other Academy Coaching staff to efficiently deliver the Analysis Programme to the highest standard.
  • Assist in the creation and delivery of pre-match, live and post-match analysis.
  • Coordinate the logging and tracking of relevant information for each individual player (match minutes, training minutes, analysis sessions, etc).

Person Specification - Essential Personal Characteristics

  • UEFA ‘B’ License Coaching Certificate
  • FA Learning Safeguarding Children Certificate
  • FA Youth award
  • EFAiF certificate
  • Basic level of IT skills
  • Experience using key Analysis software & hardware (Hudl, Macbooks, Angles/Sportscode, Keynote/Powerpoint, Excel or similar).
  • Experience using recording equipment (Camcorders, tripods, capture masts, etc.).
  • A dynamic, hardworking individual who is passionate about their work and the sport.
  • Displays a consistently high level of organisational skills. Effective at preparing, planning and completing any tasks given to a high standard.
  • A proactive personality who takes initiative, is open-minded, and willing to take on information and learn.
  • Having a positive, enthusiastic attitude alongside great communication skills to develop and maintain good relationships within the Analysis Department and wider Academy Staff.
  • Applies a high level of detail to all pieces of work produced, coupled with the ability to work under high pressure & meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work unsociable hours as required, involving work outside normal office hours, evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.
  • Understands Health & Safety principles and practices.

Person Specification - Desirable Characteristics

  • UEFA A Licence
  • FA Advanced Youth Award
  • Previous experience of working with young players
  • Previous experience of leading a FP / YDP age groups within a professional Academy
  • Experience using additional analysis software & hardware’s (telestration software’s, Tableau, Wyscout)
  • Previous experience of any performance analysis related work within a professional Academy
