Summary:

The Assistant Athletic Trainer and/or Assistant Physical Therapist is responsible for the implementation of Player Health and Performance including the management of care, prevention, recognition and evaluation of injuries, treatment and rehabilitation of all player personnel in consultation with and within the licensure of the team physician and other qualified medical personnel, the coordination and maintenance of daily performance, and medical operations for the Arizona Cardinals Football Club.

Primary Job Duties:

The Assistant Athletic Trainer and/or Assistant Physical Therapist position will have daily responsibilities including, without limitation, the following:

  • Perform daily medical records, including Club, State Workers Compensation, and NFL required injury, treatment and player medical records.
  • Perform daily athletic training therapy for injured players including the use of modalities and therapeutic strength and conditioning exercises.
  • Implement player physical exams for mini-camps, training camp, off season program, including all orthopedic exams, Internal Medicine exams, labs, special tests.
  • Perform and oversee the coordination daily treatment, rehabilitation, and player performance preparation for practice and games. Implement prophylactic measures and procedures for injury and illness prevention.
  • Implement various daily treatment and rehabilitation programs including pre and post workouts, practice, field prep and set up emergency response equipment.
  • Game day attendance for all activities, sidelines of all home and away games with the responsibility of coordinating all phases of medical care for Cardinals Players.
  • Maintain Club prescription medication and drug audit program, coordinating medical pharmacy needs for players from local and national pharmacy.
  • Coordination and implementation of team physicians and athletic trainer duties as it pertains to medical research for the NFL draft, and assigning a risk analysis/grade for combine, non-combine, or any other potential players or personnel for the club's management to review, and within the guidelines of the NFL's collective bargaining agreement for standard pre-employment physical exam.
  • Implementation of player emergency medical plan for Club practice facility, game day stadium player emergency medical plan, and team travel emergency medical plan, meet and perform operational tasks as needed.
  • Maintain performance, treatment and rehabilitation modalities and equipment, including calibration and certification for normal operation.
  • Maintain an inventory of the athletic training room for review as it pertains to ordering products during the offseason, training camp and regular season.
  • Additional duties or projects as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Assistant Athletic Trainer

  • Education: B.S. Ed. and Masters in Athletic Trainer Educational Program (ATEP)
  • Certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association. Must meet the licensure requirements for the state including a Masters’ degree in athletic training, Exercise Science, and/or similarly affiliated Allied Health Profession.
  • Maintain BOC and licensure requirements for NATA and State of Arizona as they pertain to annual CEU reporting.

Assistant Physical Therapist

  • Education: Applicant must have earned a Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree (DPT) from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE)
  • Passed the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE).
  • Must have Sports Clinical Specialist certification (SCS) issued by American Board of Physical Therapy.
  • Must have Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) certification.
  • Must have a Physical Therapy License issued by Arizona State Board of Physical Therapy.

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience: At least two to three years of full-time experience at the college or professional level.
  • Applicant must be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Experience in athletic training in the professional football workplace is preferred.
  • A proactive problem solver with a strong work ethic.
  • Demonstrated understanding when working with injured athletes.
  • Effective communication skills with all individuals across the organization.
  • Ability to maintain high energy and a positive attitude on a team united toward the common goal of championship-level performance.
  • Maintains the highest level of confidentiality and sensitivity around professional athletes in their work environment.
  • Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for periods of up to eight (8) hours in length.
  • Ability to lift to 30+ pounds.
  • This role may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions (extreme heat).
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays; hours may vary depending on business needs.
  • Must complete all pre-employment forms and successfully pass a background check.
