Alpine F1 Team have an exciting opportunity for an Industrial Placement within the Aerodynamics Performance group.

Mathematical Modelling (Aerodynamics) Industrial Placement – The Role

Within this role, part of the Aero Performance Group, you will use computational & mathematical methods to solve a range of interesting modelling and data analysis problems across the aerodynamics department.

This could include:

  • Helping to develop the primary wind tunnel data processing pipeline. Applying algorithms to take force, moment, and pressure measurements through to intuitive data visualisations and informative metrics for data-driven decision-making.
  • Contributing to the definition of maps, weightings and metrics used in the wind tunnel for aerodynamic development.
  • Supporting and analysing driver-in-the-loop simulator tests to drive car development direction.
  • Devising and implementing data analysis & modelling techniques across the aerodynamic domains (CFD, wind tunnel, track) to deliver insight into performance.

There is significant scope for the successful candidate to apply their knowledge to a broad spectrum of problems.

Mathematical Modelling (Aerodynamics) Industrial Placement – The Person

For this role, we are looking for exceptional individuals currently studying for a degree in a quantitative field.

Candidates should have a solid understanding of core data science concepts and a demonstrable interest in developing statistical modelling and analysis solutions to real world problems. Significant programming experience in Python or Matlab is required.

Knowledge of the key principles of aerodynamics and/or vehicle dynamics would be advantageous.

For this position, outstanding problem-solving abilities, an aptitude for first principle understanding of problems and an appetite for continuous learning will be key.
