Manager, Accounting

The Washington Commanders are hiring a Manager, Accounting responsible for performing and managing varied accounting functions. Functions include, but are not limited to, compiling league reporting, financials for the Team Foundation, general ledger account reconciliations, recording and posting entries in the financial system, and performing ad-hoc accounting projects as requested by management.

Major duties and responsibilities:

  • Management of Senior/Staff accountant(s)
  • Coordinate and prepare financial schedules required for NFL reporting
  • Liaison with our Tax Partner on all filings
  • Prepare Monthly P&Ls and Quarterly Financial Statements for the Team Foundation
  • Assist in the preparation of game day box office and revenue reporting
  • Work with Ticket Office, Suites, and Sponsorship to ensure AR, Deferred Income, and Revenue is appropriately recorded
  • Prepare monthly financial closing journal entries
  • Research technical accounting standards and updates as needed
  • Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts
  • Prepare monthly account roll forwards and balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Assist in reviewing and analyzing departmental P&Ls to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Provide requested information to auditors, consultants, and others on audits and other matters requiring coordination
  • Assist in financial modeling for forecasting company performance
  • Preparation and review of event settlements
  • Assist in development of new procedures and implementation of new systems to enhance the workflow of the department
  • Other projects as assigned


Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance is required
  • CPA or CPA candidate is a plus
  • 5+ years accounting experience
  • Prior experience should include staff management, compilation of financial statements, general ledger accounting, balance sheet account reconciliation, and interaction with external auditors or participation on external audit engagements


Knowledge and Skills:

  • Familiarity with accounting/financial software
  • Knowledge Microsoft Dynamics 365 is a plus
  • Extensive knowledge of general accounting principles
  • Advanced Excel skills required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software (Excel, PowerPoint, etc)
  • Adaptability and ability to manage responsibilities in a fast paced environment
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Effective communicator both verbally and in writing
  • Strong administrative and organization skills with attention to detail and follow-up required
