We are looking to recruit a consultant Physical Performance Coach to oversee physical performance for one of our England Development Pathway teams (YDP – U16s). We're looking for someone with exceptional coaching skills, who has extensive experience within the academy environment and has expertise within a specific domain of physical performance. They must have coached in a full-time team sport environment, have led a physical performance programme and have availability outside of international windows.

There will be circa 45 days on camp.

Our vision is to Develop, Empower and Connect with players so that they are physically capable to meet the demands required to win major tournaments. This is achieved through collaboration with the MDT and external partners to deliver the PPMN strategy.

We are a group of Physical Performance coaches, Doctors, Physiotherapists, Nutritionists, and soft tissue therapists. We positively impact the behaviours of England Players through delivery of inter-disciplinary strategies that are bespoke to international football. We Collaborate with the MDT and positively interact with external partners in service of the outcome –WINNING ENGLAND TEAM

What You'll Do?

The successful candidate will lead Physical Performance for our U16 Development team (Max 45 days on camp). Being a critical member of a multidisciplinary support team, they will be required to work closely with coaches, physiotherapists, team doctor's and team operations managers both on and off camp to deliver exceptional physical performance support.

DELIVERY

  • Inspire & influence players through outstanding physical performance coaching to England teams
  • Contribute to the team's performance plan through collaborating with and complimenting all functions within performance services.
  • Ensure an integrated team with clarity of the plan and shared understanding of solutions.
  • Delivery & development of the FA Physical Performance Curriculum, including:
  • Off Camp Monitoring
  • Physical Profiling & Training Solutions
  • Periodisation
  • The Other 22 Hours & Performance Fuelling
  • Closely liaise with the MDT and the coaching staff of that team to ensure optimal management of player's health and fitness throughout the camp.
  • Support the performance medicine team in their delivery of the Performance Medicine Curriculum
  • Attend all training sessions and matches, along with regular PPMN, coaching and multidisciplinary meetings throughout any camp.
  • Foster close working relationships based on collaboration and sharing data with peers in professional clubs to enable the best management of players into and out international camps.

OFF CAMP

  • Provide regular player status updates following club fixtures. Follow up with clubs if player is unavailable / injured. Meet regularly with coaches and PPMN MDT to update on player status.
  • Liaise with club staff prior to camps to ensure clear understanding of player status. Ensure smooth transition both into and out of international camps.
  • Attendance and contribution to annual planning, camp planning, camp review, selection and talent ID processes.
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with other team Consultants to ensure an aligned approach and smooth transition for players moving through the pathway.
  • Develop close working relationships with peers in professional clubs to enable knowledge of and management of international players, as well as driving Individual player development plans

DEVELOPMENT

  • Mandatory attendance and contribution to FA PPMN CPD/training days throughout the year
  • Any other task as is reasonably required by The FA to fulfil the Appointment effectively, adhering to the current Standard Operating Procedures of the department.

  • Executes additional tasks as required in order to meet FA Group changing priorities.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures to ensure the highest standards of health, safety and wellbeing can be maintained.
  • As part of The FA's commitment to ensuring a safe environment for everyone in football, every employee will be required to complete a DBS check. The level of the check required will be based on the activity of the specific job role and in line with legislation and government guidance.

What You'll Need?

Essentially for the role:

Knowledge

  • Under-graduate qualifications in sports performance related field
  • Relevant physical performance accreditation (BASES/NSCA/UKSCA/ASCA)
  • Evidence of extensive CPD history in physical performance

Experience

  • Extensive experience as a team PPC in elite sport (5years+)
  • Track record of successfully leading teams of physical performance coaches in elite sport
  • Track record of successfully integrating into established and developing medical and performance teams
  • Leadership within a physical performance department (accountable for the PPC provision within a department, or team)
  • Excellent coaching skills
  • Proven delivery of strategic and operational planning
  • An understanding of the physical performance needs of high-performance athletes / players.

Technical Skills

  • High quality technical and non-technical coaching skills for on + off pitch physical performance.
  • Able to work and thrive in the High-Performance environment
  • A creative thinker, with good problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Proven ability to work within a multi-disciplinary support team and contribute to optimising player development.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise workloads.

Beneficial to also have:

Knowledge

  • Evidence of further learning in sports performance and/or leadership related field(s)

Experience

  • Experience in international sport
  • Experience in international or professional club football
  • Experience with youth and adolescent athletic development

Technical Skills

  • A specific area of deep expertise within physical performance
  • Extensive knowledge of latest performance software and technologies along with computer literacy.
