Position Overview:

The Account Executive, New Business Development functions as a part of the ticket sales team within the Ticket Sales & Service Department. The key responsibility of the New Business Development position is to generate revenue through proactive season ticket sales efforts for the San Jose Sharks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate initiative to proactively solicit and generate new business to maximize full season and partial season ticket sales revenue for the Sharks
  • Develop and maintain a thorough awareness of ticket packages and pricing options
  • Establish and maintain business relationships with a focus on developing new clients through upselling of partial season ticket plans into full season ticket plans
  • Make 75 outbound sales calls each day, with the goal of getting face-to-face in-person/digital meetings through invitations to tour SAP Center, sales events and/or off-site meetings
  • Coordinate and manage ticket sales activities and meet with all clients to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction. This could include attending community events for the purpose of maximizing sales opportunities and independently working a sales table on behalf of the Sharks
  • Maximize all ticket sales revenue by independently identifying and self-generating potential new prospects and leads
  • Work game nights and community events for purpose of maximizing sales opportunities. (ie.Tabling and attending networking events)
  • Build and maintain customer database and actively track touchpoints
  • Utilize independent discretion in making use of database, referrals, and other sources to conduct aggressive outreach and increase ticket sales and prospects database
  • Provide creative input, sales ideas, and assert follow-through to efforts that enhance customer satisfaction
  • Handle in-bound sales calls from prospective customers
  • Anticipate the needs of clients and provide service opportunities to secure long-term relationships with the Sharks
  • Perform other tasks and projects as requested
  • Ability to use independent judgment and discretion to make and implement decisions after evaluating various courses of action

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience is required, including at least one (1) year of direct experience, ideally as a member of an entry-level sales team in the sports industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in sports management, business, marketing, or related field is required; an advanced degree is a plus
  • Ability to understand commission plans and ability to actively participate in setting your sales goals
  • Proven track record of sales excellence and development of client relationships in professional sports or collegiate sports; experience in an entry level sales program is strongly preferred
  • Requires the ability to make independent decisions and speak consistently on behalf of SSE
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, detail oriented, strong problem solving and decision-making abilities
  • Ability to consistently portray a positive and enthusiastic approach to clients and potential clients
  • Proficient in Outlook, Word, and Excel. Experience with Archtics ticketing system and CRM software a plus
  • Ability to work independently without supervision, be self-directed and demonstrate initiative
  • Exhibit good judgment and decision-making skills, as well as ability to manage your own time and implement your own schedule
  • Understanding that, as a client-facing position, you are required to be at events that primarily take place on nights and sometimes on weekends to service clients or potential clients


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand and utilize a computer for extended periods of time
  • Communicate via phone and email with a variety of individuals
  • Ability to bend at the waist, reach overhead and lift up to 15 lbs with or without accommodation
  • Physically navigate stairs and catwalks at SSE facilities during normal work hours and events with or without accommodation
  • Ability to work occasional extended hours including nights, weekends, holidays (all with advance notice)
  • May be required to travel to other company locations
  • May be required to attend conference, events, and training sessions within Bay Area or in- or out-of-state locations.
