Timbers Academy Assistant Coach (U16, U18)

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

Assist in overseeing all on-field matters involving the Under 16 and Under 18 Timbers Academy teams. Working closely with the Head Coaches of each team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


GENERIC DUTIES

  • Collaborates with the Academy Technical Staff on all aspects of player development, club Identity and talent management
  • Work closely, constructively and collaboratively with each team’s coaching staff, trainer and support staff
  • Assist in consulting and advising with respect to the team rosters.
  • Help create optimal conditions for team performance
  • Help create and maintain a winning culture and high-performance environment
  • Enforce team rules and league rules applicable to the team’s players and or coaching staff
  • Have an outstanding knowledge of the sport
  • Strive to learn more about coaching
  • Obtain proper coaching qualifications
  • Be innovative and creative
  • Identify areas for improvement and work with players on improvement
  • Be in tune with Club’s ideological approach
  • Be active in support of decisions and philosophies
  • Maintain unquestionable trustworthiness
  • Keep up with latest technology in computing, communications, performance analysis
  • Other duties and services as may reasonably assigned by the club that are consistent with employment as an assistant coach at the academy level


SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Assist the Head Coaches in conducting and supervising the team’s practices, training camps, and training sessions.
  • Design training sessions that positively affect the needs of each team.
  • Assist the Head Coaches in preparing for all games played by each Academy team (U16 and U18).
  • Assist with the scouting of next opponent with match reports.
  • Assist with Academy teams in all exhibitions, regular season, playoff, tournament, international and other games when requested.
  • Be prepared to assume a head coaching position in case of non-attendance of a Head Coach and convey the same message with the same intent as if the head coach were still present.
  • Enforce team rules and league rules applicable to each team’s players and or coaching staff.
  • Contribute to the creation and enactment of Individual Development Plans (IDP’s) for younger players.
  • Help with off-season player development programs.
  • Be comfortable interacting with, and delivering clear, appropriate feedback to academy players with regards to their performance and development.
  • Take an interest and knowledge of players' outside interests, family/education, etc.
  • Be friendly with players in social gatherings but retain an appropriate professional distance – know where the limits are.
  • Support and participate in the formation of full reports, created by the coaching staff on team, and player performances in trainings and games.
  • Be approachable and open to listening to staff and players.
  • Have strong working relations with all support staff.
  • Actively participate in group discussions and coaches' meetings.
  • Resolve conflicts quickly and appropriately.
  • Be proactive in seeking educational opportunities to grow as a coach and to help with the development of the club.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Demonstrate a high-level work ethic, flexibility, adaptability and time management to effectively “float” between roles with two different Academy teams
  • USSF “B” Coaching License or better required
  • Strive to learn more about coaching, your sport and your role – recognizing that no matter how much you might know there will always be more to learn
  • Seek to obtain further coaching qualifications, certifications, experience, etc.
  • Have a mindset of continuous professional development and seek to develop strengths in areas where the program has weaknesses.
  • Be innovative and creative – help create the future by being self-motivated with the ability to think independently and with flexibility.
  • Be active in your support of decisions and philosophies.
  • Demonstrate organizational, communicative, and practical knowledge and delivery of soccer specific content
  • Assist in making sure all staff works towards the successful implementation of their performance plan and set the standard for the club in terms of knowledge and work ethic.
  • Subject to a Background Check


DISPOSITION/ATTITUDE

  • Have a positive and respectful demeanor to interact and work with other departments, staff, players, families and officials within the game and directly linked to the club
  • Provide key assistance in running the academy program and must be able to maintain both safety and decorum as a priority.
  • When called upon, the Coach will be asked to attend functions or events and as such must always be positive, professional and respectful in all interactions at such events


SPECIAL CONDITIONS
This position is considered exempt from minimum wage and overtime pay requirements.
