Position Summary:
The Digital Content Publisher will be a core part of the WNBA’s Digital Content team, working closely with the Digital Content Senior Manager to ensure seamless execution of the content strategy across WNBA.com, the WNBA App, and all digital touchpoints. This role requires an editorial mentality, excellent project management skills, and an in-depth understanding of the WNBA’s digital ecosystem to enhance audience engagement and deliver a premium fan experience. The ideal candidate will be both a strategic problem solver and a hands-on executor, supporting real-time content initiatives, live coverage, and ongoing editorial projects.
Major Responsibilities:
- Digital Content Strategy & Execution:
- Partner with the Digital Content Manager to develop and complete a robust content strategy for WNBA.com and the WNBA App.
- Utilize a variety of storytelling formats including video, articles, live coverage, and interactive content to engage fans.
- Identify and capitalize on emerging WNBA trends, key matchups, and moments to create timely and relevant content.
- Maintain an up-to-date content calendar and ensure coverage plans are consistently aligned with the league’s priorities and seasonal milestones.
- Content Planning & Editorial Oversight:
- Complete the entire publishing workflow, including conceptualization, execution, copyediting, and quality control for all digital content.
- Develop editorial guidelines and style sheets to ensure content consistency and brand alignment.
- Handle hub strategy and planning for real-time updates (including preparation for Google OneBox integration) to provide live, minute-by-minute coverage on WNBA platforms.
- Real-Time Content Execution:
- Handle all day-to-day content publishing across all digital channels, including website, app, email, and push notifications.
- Collaborate with the digital developers to ensure content is optimized for UI/UX on WNBA.com and the app, using A/B testing to refine strategy.
- Ideate and lead real-time storytelling during games, leveraging game data, live highlights, and player insights to capture fan attention.
- Video Strategy & Production Support:
- Support execution of digital video strategy in collaboration with the Creative Lead, ensuring the WNBA App is the go-to destination for digital coverage.
- Coordinate video assets, highlight reels, and outstanding behind-the-scenes content for app and social channels.
- CRM & Push Notification Management:
- Execute CRM content strategies (email and push notifications) and coordinate with internal stakeholders to deliver personalized, engaging, and timely content.
- Utilize analytics to assess the impact of CRM campaigns and optimize future content executions and develop push content opportunities
- Analytics & Performance Optimization:
- Regularly analyze the performance of content across platforms, using data insights to refine strategies and enhance content delivery.
- Develop reports and presentations for senior leadership, showcasing key metrics, engagement trends, and areas of improvement.
Qualifications:
- Deep Knowledge of the WNBA:
- Must have a fluent understanding of the WNBA, its players, teams, and storylines, with a constant pulse on league trends and news.
- Editorial & Content Creation Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of digital content experience, preferably in a fast-paced sports, entertainment, or media environment.
- Proficiency in content management systems (CMS), such as WordPress, Drupal, or similar platforms.
- Strong background in copyediting, content management, and digital publishing.
- Prior experience managing content for websites and apps, with a focus on driving user engagement and implementing best practices.
- Creative Skills:
- Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, or similar content creation tools required.
- Ability to craft compelling visuals and support multimedia storytelling formats.
- Project Management & Attention to Detail:
- Strong project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks, deadlines, and stakeholders.
- Must be detail-oriented with a commitment to upholding quality standards across all platforms!
- Real-Time & Flexible Work Schedule:
- Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required by the WNBA schedule and major events.
Preferred Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
- Experience with CRM tools and developing content for email and app push notifications.
- Familiarity with Google Analytics, SEO tools, and other digital reporting platforms.
Additional Skills:
- Proficiency in HTML/CSS for content formatting and presentation.
- Strong understanding of UI/UX principles and how they impact content consumption on digital platforms.
- A proactive mindset with the ability to lead in brainstorming sessions and contribute to the overall creative vision!
