The Minnesota Wild Hockey Team is seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to join our organization as an Assistant Athletic Trainer. This role will work closely with our Head Athletic Trainer/Director of Player Health to provide high-quality healthcare and injury prevention services to our professional hockey players. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills, a solid understanding of sports medicine principles, competencies in various manual therapy techniques (such as massage, myofascial release, instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM), dry needling, etc.), and a commitment to supporting the overall health and wellness of our athletes.

RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in providing medical coverage during practices, games, and other team events.
  • Evaluate and treat athletic injuries, including implementing rehabilitation programs and coordinating with team physicians and specialists as needed.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and documentation of injuries, treatments, and progress.
  • Assist in the implementation of injury prevention strategies and protocols, including prehabilitation exercises and wellness initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the strength and conditioning staff to ensure seamless integration of rehabilitation exercises into players' training programs.
  • Provide education, guidance, and clinical support to players on injury prevention, recovery techniques, and proper nutrition both in and off-season.
  • Assist with the setup and maintenance of the team's medical facilities and equipment.
  • Stay current with the latest developments in sports medicine research and best practices.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • FORMAL EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION
    • Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
    • Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) certification from the Board of Certification (BOC).
    • Licensed (or eligible for licensure) as an Athletic Trainer in the state of Minnesota.
    • CPR/AED certification is required; additional certifications in emergency care and sports medicine are a plus.
  • KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
    • Previous experience working with elite athletes, preferably in a professional hockey environment.
    • Strong clinical assessment and rehabilitation skills.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with players, coaches, and medical staff.

WORK CONDITIONS

  • A flexible work schedule is essential.
  • Required to be present at all home and away practices and games throughout the NHL season.
  • Attend all team camps and be available for off-ice training sessions at the practice facility in Minnesota.
