Primary Objective: Support and assist the Director of Amateur Scouting in all facets of player evaluation. Scout and rank talent in assigned region. Provide player evaluations to provide support for Marlinsā decision-making at all amateur levels.
Essential Functions:
- Evaluate, create written reports, and present on all players in the assigned area.
- Maintain and update a comprehensive āPreference Listā for the assigned area.
- Provide and present all relevant background information (interviews, character assessments, test applications, etc.) on prospects in the assigned area.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of the Marlinsā scouting practices and apply them at all levels.
- File schedules for all schools/programs in the assigned area. Provide guidance and recommendation for incoming crosscheckers and other members of the scouting department.
- Provide prospect āfollow reportsā on prospects for upcoming draft classes.
- Special Assignment coverages as assigned by Assistant Director and/or Director, Amateur Scouting
- Aid Pro Scouting Department when assigned
Education and Experience:
- Bachelorās degree is preferred. Equivalent, relevant work experience would be considered in lieu of formal education
Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Scouting of amateur players both in-person and on video
- Excellent communication skills and ability to converse with both Players and Coaches/Agents, as well as the scouting department leadership group
- Demonstrates exceptional organizational skills
- Strong grasp of modern performance metrics
- Acts in a manner that is fair & ethical, and represents the Miami Marlins with integrity
- Takes personal responsibility for completing work in a way that positively and professionally represents the organization

- Possess computer proficiency with email, MS Word and Excel
- The ability to be innovative and proactive in promoting new ideas and concepts
Physical Activities and Working Conditions:
- Travel and evaluate all assigned coverages and players-of-interest
- Attend Regional Scouting meeting in advance of the annual Draft. Provide detailed presentation of each prospect in the assigned area
- Regularly collaborate with scouting leadership in developing self-improvement plans in all areas, including goal planning and reviews
- Must Live within assigned region.
