THE POSITION

Under the direction and supervision of the Head of Safeguarding and Child Protection, the Senior Event Safeguarding Manager provides strategic support in the development and implementation of the FIFA event safeguarding programme.

These are your key tasks:

  • Employing effective and efficient strategies to embed safeguarding and child protection practice and standards within FIFA’s tournament and events operations, including embedding safeguarding requirements into host country bidding processes and reviewing bid proposals to assess the proposed measures.
  • Working closely with the FIFA Tournaments and Event team and relevant Local Organising Committees, to develop and ensure information about safeguarding arrangements and protocols for reporting and case-management are disseminated to participating member associations, teams, and all accredited individuals prior to and during a FIFA tournament or event.
  • Ensuring that FIFA provides relevant advice, guidance, quality assurance and training as appropriate to the organization, its member associations and confederations in relation to safeguarding and child protection at tournaments and events.
  • Providing on-site case-management support and coordination and act as the FIFA focal point for safeguarding at select FIFA competitions.
  • Liaising with FIFA Ethics and Disciplinary, when needed, in managing a reported incident during a competition in consultation with the Safeguarding team and senior FIFA officials.
  • Providing training in advance of an event or competition to all relevant event/tournament staff (FIFA and LOC) to ensure they understand what action they should take if they have a concern or if a disclosure is made to them.
  • Acting as the focal point to centralise and determine next steps for all reports of incidents occurring during the tournament/event in close coordination with the FIFA head of the tournament and FIFA senior management.
  • Liaising with FIFA communications to respond to any media enquiries relating to an incident at a FIFA tournament or event and other relevant communications in close consultation with the Head of Safeguarding and Child Protection and senior FIFA officials.

The specific competencies we require for this position are:

  • An understanding of the global sporting landscape and safeguarding in sport.
  • A strong professional background in social work, law, safeguarding and/or child protection within the statutory, sporting or voluntary sector and experience of applying that to different contexts, with at least 5 years’ experience at a senior level in an regional/global organisation.
  • Experience of working with and an understanding of statutory and voluntary agencies and organizations specific to safeguarding and child protection regionally/globally, including those that specifically relate to sport.
  • Proven significant experience of developing and delivering safeguarding training, especially in international/regional contexts and culturally sensitive environments, to a wide range of audiences including senior level staff through to operational support level staff.
  • Track record in developing and managing an event-based or “competition-time” safeguarding strategy or plan, including managing safeguarding cases before, during and after the competition or event itself.
  • Previous experience in a global/regional role with working relationships across regions/sub-regions.
  • Educated to degree level, or relevant experience to the same level of knowledge and expertise in relevant discipline (Social Work, Law, Safeguarding or Child Protection), preferably with a Masters degree, or Postgraduate qualification in a related discipline.
  • Proven experience in managing safeguarding cases at international/regional events and competitions ideally in the sport sector.
  • Proven ability to liaise with key stakeholders to discuss sensitive matters.
  • Ability to remain discreet and maintain confidentiality.
  • Flexibility to adapt to unplanned circumstances and deliver.
  • Ability to work horizontally and collaboratively.
  • Capable of performing well in a multicultural work environment.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Fluent in English; proficiency in any other FIFA language (F /ES /GER) is an asset.
  • Proficient in Word / PowerPoint / Excel.
  • Willingness to travel for extended periods up to 60% of the year depending on world cups’ schedules.
