Soccer Strategy Internship

Position Summary:

The Soccer Strategy Intern with D.C. United will play a critical role in supporting the team's strategic initiatives through research and project management. This position involves working closely with the Strategy & Analytics staff to evaluate processes and innovation opportunities. The intern will also assist in scouting and recruitment research, leveraging data analytics tools and soccer knowledge to create valuable insights. This opportunity provides a unique chance to gain hands-on experience in soccer strategy and operations within a professional environment. This position is available for either in-person or remote work. This is an unpaid internship.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Support departments within Soccer Operations by providing timely analysis or project work on request using a variety of data sets including league specific economics, player contracts, roster construction and player recruitment.

· Review, enhance, and codify existing strategy, analytics, and scouting processes to develop a repository for standard operating procedures.

· Develop new project ideas and assess their potential impacts, feasibility, and importance.

· Participate in data quality processes by validating data against external or internal data sets.

· Conduct ad-hoc research and analysis on internal and external roster decisions and transactions and assess trends across the league.

· Create engaging, descriptive, and intuitive reports, decks, and other documentation.

· Provide support across the entire soccer department, including ad hoc requests from coaches and other department directors.

Desired Skills:

· Knowledge and interest in soccer & Major League Soccer specifically.

· Effective communicator and ability to leverage a technical mindset with a creative and analytical approach to problem-solving.

· Strong and comfortable using Microsoft Excel & PowerPoint.

· Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Finance, Business/Sports Analytics, Sports Business, or another related field.

· Experience in project management.

· Experience in player recruitment.

Requirements:

· Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program and eligible for college credit.

· Area of Study: Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Finance, Business/Sports Analytics, Sports Business, or another related field.

· Available 20-25 hours per week.
