Academy Performance Internship

Position Summary:

D.C. United is seeking applicants for an Academy Performance Internship Position. The candidate will assist with all aspects of physical preparation for D.C. United Academy youth players as directed by the Academy Performance Coach. This position will offer the candidate hands-on experience in a high-level collaborative team-sport environment. The candidate will gain an understanding of the daily workings and the environment in elite sport, including the role of sports science (GPS tracking, wellness monitoring, performance testing) in session planning. The candidate will gain a conceptional understanding of long-term athletic development and various performance training methodologies in the sport of soccer. This internship is aimed towards those in a sports related degree or aspiring strength and conditioning coaches looking to gain experience in elite level soccer. The individual must possess a strong desire to learn and grow. This is an unpaid internship.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Assists in development and implementation of all daily warmups before training.

· Assists in development and implementation of gym strength training sessions.

· Assists in development and implementation of on-field performance sessions.

· Monitor athlete’s athletic development throughout the year

· Assists athletic trainers with rehabilitations for injured athletes

· Other duties as assigned.

Desired Skills:

· Working towards/possess one of the following: NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or NASM Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES)

· Working towards/possess bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or a related area from an institution of higher education.

· Must demonstrate the intention and desire to work as a Strength and Conditioning Coach or in a related performance focused coaching role.

· Must demonstrate willingness to work with load monitoring technology.

Requirements:

· Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program and eligible for college credit.

· Available 20-25 hours per week
