Summary Description
The Accounting Manager is responsible for performing many of the day-to-day accounting functions of the Cleveland Browns organization. This role is involved in financial planning, forecasting, budgeting and account analysis in addition to having responsibility for accounts receivable (invoicing and collection) and general ledger functions. This position must work closely with key management positions to provide financial analysis in the form of departmental budgets, financial modeling relative to key existing and/or new business initiatives, contract analysis, business development and process review and engineering. This position is one of the liaisons for external auditors, tax advisors. The Accounting Manager is also expected to have significant involvement in analysis for ticketing, retail and concessions. Finally, the individual in this role is expected to work closely with the Vice President of Finance to monitor and implement new accounting standards and practices to ensure that the organization is GAAP compliant.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist with the compilation and analysis of the annual financial budget for the organization including periodic re-forecasting exercises throughout the year.
- Review monthly financial reports by department and work with department managers to analyze budget vs. actual variances.
- Oversee accounting policies, practices and tracking of all other balance sheet and P&L general ledger accounts.
- Assist with the compilation of NFL annual reporting requirements.
- Assist with the annual external financial statement audit engagement.
- Assist in the review and filing of state and local tax returns, as prepared by
external tax advisor.
- Assist the Vice President, Finance in establishing accounting policies and procedures to improve organizational efficiency and internal controls.
- Work closely with the Vice President, Finance to monitor and implement new accounting standards to ensure that the organization is GAAP compliant.
- Manage Government reporting.
Required Experience & Skills
- 4-year college degree or combination of equivalent education and experience.
- Ideal candidate will possess 5-7 yearsβ experience in accounting and/or finance.
- Strong work ethic and analytical skills are a must. Excellent communication skills are required as this person will deal with all levels of internal personnel, external auditors, outside partners, League personnel and other various Finance associates.
- Ability to exhibit proper discretion in dealing with highly sensitive and confidential information is a must.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills and ability to work with all levels of staff and outside vendors.
- Proficient with Excel.
- Prior Great Plains, Archtics, Chase Payment Tech, American Express and Ticket Master Programs experience is preferred.
