The Role


We are looking for a Deputy Head Grounds Person to assist the Head Grounds Person in the day-to-day maintenance and general upkeep of the Arsenal Youth Academy, Hale End.

Your day-to-day


  • Assisting the Head Grounds Person - with planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating all grounds related work and management of daily tasks in their absence
  • Upholding ground standards - Effective management of all grounds activities to consistently achieve the recognised standards and availability for the Club
  • Ensuring health and safety - Managing and checking facilities, plant, buildings and equipment to ensure safe working practices and compliance to health and safety standards
  • Equipment management - Management of all maintenance, servicing and storage of equipment
  • Pitch maintenance - Assisting in the renovation of hybrid and natural pitches using equipment associated with this process e.g., tractor and trailer work, sand spreading and seeding
  • Operating machinery - Wide use of machinery in the maintenance and renovation of grassed areas - such as ride-on, pedestrian mowers, turf cutters, edgers and scarification equipment
  • Trend Analysis - Gathering and recording information to develop trend data and analyse past usage

What we are looking for


  • Qualified to NVQ level 3 or above in green keeping and groundsmanship or equivalent
  • Spraying certificates PA1, 2 and 6 (Desirable)
  • Experience in all aspects of grounds maintenance including hybrid, artificial surfaces and a working knowledge of horticulture and gardens
  • Experience in the use of turf care equipment
  • Competent IT Skills
  • Experience in the management of pitch lighting systems
  • Competent management and maintenance of irrigation systems
  • Experience of managing teams of operatives, planning and organising workloads, allocating duties and monitoring performance
  • Have a good mechanical knowledge of equipment and be able to assist with routine maintenance
  • Ability to use a wide range of turf care equipment

    Please note: a Full UK driving license will be required for this role as there will be travel to different working locations
